More Creative Journeys

I've added three new Creative Journeys to my Tutorials page.  Creative Journeys are not patterns with instructions, but rather cover the creative process in the making of a specific outfit. Everything was also posted on my Blog, at the time the projects were underway, but I figure it's so much easier to see the entire process in one place instead of trying to search for it in the Blog Archives.

I've added the making of the Green Floral FID gown....

My Wizards's Santa costume....

And the latest, the Pink Sari FID Gown...

I've been thinking of adding the pattern templates for the two FID bodices in their respective 'Creative Journey' pages, but don't want to get into step-by-step instructions. Just provide the full-size pattern templates so that more experienced sewers have a jumping off point to create something of their own. I don't know if people would find that useful.

Hi. People would most definitely find it useful if you wanted to post pattern templates. It’s impossible to find patterns for most BJDs, and a lot of owners want a way to make their dolls clothes, so they use whatever patterns they can find, even those without instructions. :)

I think it would be very nice if you included the templates for those who have FIDs. Not me, personally, as I don’t have one, but I know from experience how much appreciated it is to find any pattern that might fit the doll you’re sewing for.

I should do that then. It's just a lot of work to trace the patterns and scan them in to make a pdf, and I already have so many things on the go. It doesn't help that I'm so super tired all the time. But they will get added sooner or later.

I've even thought of making a 'sloper library' of many of my patterns. Just the patterns or templates in pdf format, but without any instructions. But again, it's a LOT of work, as I have an awful lot of patterns.

I understand and I hope you feel better soon. On the other hand, both of those are great ideas! Finding BJD patterns is so hard and getting them made up is even more difficult. Frankly, if you wrote a book on designing your own BJD patterns, I’d be your first customer. ;)

I’d also like the idea of the sloper library. It would be a great help to BJD owners who want to make BJD clothes, especially for Iplehouse dolls. I realize it would take a lot of time and would be something to be worked on little by little, but it would be really appreciated by those who come to your blog to see the wonderful outfits you’ve made and to find tips, tricks, and patterns to make their own BJD clothes. Get well soon!

I'm with Sara on this one...even tho I don't have an FID either, having a pattern template is always helpful. I'm terrible at making my own patterns and usually try to adapt something first. Of course that doesn't stop me from trying as I am this week attempting to create an outfit to represent a favorite character from a book series. She's all in black so I'm first attempting a white bodysuit to protect her from the pleather. Just as a thought, I'd be willing to pay for a book of pattern templates if you wanted to self-pub one and I think others would too. I love and appreciate the freebies, but artists deserve to get paid too.

Another fan of the book idea! ;) I’m glad you agree. Having these resorces is a huge help. Hope your own clothing making goes really well, and good call on the undersuit. Another thing to note, is black fabric is always harder to work with because you can’t see the stitching on it as well, so practicing on white might make that black suit easier to sew too. Good luck!

I don't know about a book. That would be a ridiculous amount of work.

I agree about black fabric. I have eyesight issues and can't see any detail in anything black, so totally avoid it whenever possible.
