Well, I finished the three outfits for my granddaughter's MIM doll yesterday...... And took some pictures of them. First the gown with jacket, made from an Indian scarf.... And something a little more casual... And for the third outfit, I changed my mind in mid stride, after she loved the 'lumberjack' style outfit for her OG doll that I gave her for Christmas. So I decided to make something similar.... Having just a week to make everything, I didn't have time to knit a toque, so went to the dollar store and bought a suitable pair of socks, to turn one of them into a matching hat.... Now to pack them all up, and head to the party.....
We had the most wonderful snowfall last night, and I really wanted to take some photos of Kassia as the Snow Queen. I thought the Ruins Garden might be nice, but by the time we got to go there, most of the snow had blown off the branches..... It was freezing cold, and the sun was low to the south, which only added to my photography dilemma. But we made our way through the snow, looking for just the right place..... I wanted to include the polar bear, but wasn't prepared to get down in the snow, so only got this one shot with everyone, on the end of one of the ruins walls..... All the other photos had to be taken 'hand held'.... It was so very cold, and my hands were in pain each time I had to take off my mittens, but I was happy with the few photos I did manage to take. And I also had a bit of a workout trudging through the snow, on my very first doll photo shoot since my surgery. We'll need to try again after another nice snowfall, when it isn't quite so cold.
My Willie arrived today! These 'House Elves' from Dreamhigh Studios, can be either sex, and mine will be a girl. But I already have another 'Willy' - one of my Feegles - so this one will be called 'Willow'. I can't imagine the shock of leaving the heat of Indonesia, and arriving in such a frigid country. Tracking said "Out for Delivery" by 10:30 this morning, but she didn't arrive until after 3 pm. That's a very long time in a postal truck at -20 C. Good thing she was wrapped in a nice snuggly 'sleeping bag'.... Funny, that I never noticed in any of her pictures, that her eyes are different sizes.... Right from the start, I imagined her as a smaller version of my 'Prudwynn' gnomie character. So I got her out for a picture. Willow is 'normal' resin, so considerably lighter.... ....but could otherwise be her daughter. I'm really looking forward to working on my little Willow.......but first I have to finish the birthday doll clothes. So I better just put her back in her box.....sigh....
A few of my favourite photos from Christmas 2014..... Christmas morning.... Playing with Simon.... A sewing kit for Lisa.... New Dollhouses.... Lego for everyone....
With the limited time I had left to make any gifts for Christmas this year, I figured I should be able to make one outfit each for Teagan and Rachel. I had some gorgeous laces, and last Saturday showed them to the girls, and asked which one was their favourite. And which doll they'd like the dress for. So this week I made two lace doll dresses. Rachel chose this white lace with the pale turquoise and yellow flowers, to be made into a dress for one of her Our Generation dolls..... And Teagan chose a blue-gray lace, which she wanted made into something for her MIM doll. I had two yards of each lace, and with the MIM doll having a much smaller bodice and narrower sleeves, there was way more lace left over for the skirt, so she has a much fuller skirt. Now that those two are finished, I need to start the birthday doll clothes for Teagan. There's just one week left, and not every day is a good day, so I'll see what I can get done. Hopefully two outfits. Three if it's a really good week.
I NEED to betaking photos, and since there's not much in the way of doll photos to take right now, I'm shooting the flowers I've been given since my surgery. Earlier this week an arrangement of red roses and green orchids arrived..... And the first bouquet of lilies and roses was just about spent, but a few lilies were still blooming..... The yellow roses I received a week ago had opened beautifully, so they deserved another photo.... In fact, I was inspired to take a 'still life' shot with the roses, after Jan used my grandmother's old tea set at snack time this morning when our granddaughters came over. They had brought some goodies from the Dutch store, so the leftovers ended up in the photo as well.....
I've put all the Mall Santa photos into two albums in Favourite Photos 2017, so you can now go through the whole story from beginning to end, in the proper order....
I know I'm supposed to be resting, and taking it easy, but it's sooooo boring doing NOTHING, so last week I decided to make my Kassia a white velour cloak. I can imagine all kinds of great photo opportunities with her in the snow - once I'm able - and thought a nice hooded cloak would complete her already amazing gown. The dress presented a problem because of all the embellishments at the shoulder. So I made the 'cloak' in two pieces - the actual cloak itself which ties underneath all the flower petals and pearls - and a completely separate hood, which has a jewelled silver clasp, and rests in the bodice neckline I managed to bead the edges, even though my eyesight is pretty bad right now. And because we decided not to put up our Christmas tree this year, I took photos of her with the mini tree on my dining room table....
