Owen and Leona enjoying dessert at the fancy restaurant he took her to for their anniversary....
*Story Here I've been working on some new cakes for all the upcoming doll birthdays, and ones I've missed. I was getting bored just reusing the old ones, so decided to make a bunch of new ones.... There's a cute little elephant cake for baby Sena, 'iced' with drywall compound, and waiting for the addition of a big bow and all the polymer clay flowers..... ...and polymer clay peacock 'feathers' for a fancy cake for Monica.... Plus half a dozen other cakes, some for specific birthdays, others just for the dessert table. I always enjoyed making them, even though they are very slow work. Each new layer of drywall compound takes a full day to dry, and making the details out of polymer clay takes quite a bit longer than I expected as well. So I do a bit of work every now and then throughout the day.
Everyone was having a great time at David's birthday banquet.... "I can't finish this, Mom..." "Well, you know our rule about food....if you take it, then you need to eat it..." "I know, but it just looked so good...." "Well, maybe Shadow would be willing to help you out..." Shadow was the family 'dog'. He was actually a wolf. Lawrence had come across him on a hunting trip. Poachers had killed his whole family, and had left the lone little cub crying over his mother's body. So Lawrence took him home and raised him. At first he would run and hide in any dark corner, so Lawrence named him Shadow. Now that he was all grown, he was as gentle and loyal as any dog.... But Ringo still felt a little nervous approaching him....after all Shadow was almost as big as him.. "It's okay. He won't bite..." So Ringo gathered all his courage.... ..and came around.... "Here boy....would you like this turkey leg?" But Shadow could sense that Ringo was a little nervous, so just quietly sat where he was.... "It's okay boy...." "...Mom said I could give it to you..."
I finished Iris' gown this morning, and really wanted to take some photos of her and Steve outside, but it's like a sauna out there, so I took a few quick photos inside. So here's the finished gown with all the basting removed from the pleats, so they hang properly like they should..... Steve loves how his wife looks in her new gown..... ...and figures he better take her out on some classy dates, so she can wear it....
I'm trying to stay busy, keeping my mind off all the pain. I spent Friday night in Emergency because I couldn't take it any more. They think I have a pinched nerve in my hip or lower back, which is causing the severe pain in my hip, side and back, as well as the pain down my leg into my foot. After spending the entire night there, they sent me home with prescriptions for pain killers and muscle relaxants, as I wait for an appointment for an MRI to confirm what exactly is going on. In the meantime it helps to have something to do. I'm almost finished Iris' new pink gown. This was the last photo I took of her, but it's a lot further now. Almost done in fact. I also started a bunch of birthday cakes, as there's several dolls who are due their first year anniversary 'birthday' parties. There's even some who are approaching their second anniversaries without ever having had a party. Of course I could always use cakes I already have, but it's nice to actually make some new ones, so that's what I'm doing. There's enough foam circles for six cakes - four double tier, and two singles. Today I get to sand the final layer of drywall compound. They required four layers - first the outside, then the top, then the outsides again, and finally a second layer on top. Each layer needs a whole day to dry before I can sand it and move on to the next layer. Then the fun begins.
