I've been getting so many reminders on Facebook these days about all the photos I took of Rex & Bianca in Newfoundland last summer. Those were still the 'good old days' when we could still travel and go somewhere. And it was such a lovely, romantic adventure. So I thought I'd just share some of my favourite photos of them from that trip.
Thought I'd share photos of the setting up of the dining hall in my dining room. First the bare bones walls and furniture. I put the most period appropriate seats in the front where they'd be see. The ones in the back will be hidden by the dolls, so don't matter... Then with wall hangings.... Then I covered the two tables with one long board.... The scene as currently set up... When I wanted to take a photo of David's end, the pink wall and white doorframe beyond the 'stone wall' looked unsightly, so Jan rotated the carpet some, so the wooden cabinet on that wall would fill in the background instead.... Everyone is still sitting there just waiting until I get back to the story.
I'm slowly making progress on the new, fancy, pink Victorian gown for Iris. I don't know if I've shown the photo of the main skirt with the first three rows of embellishment.... Well, I added another row, of a light pink lace, and sewed puffs of pale pink nylon tricot, interspaced with ribbon roses. And I started the front drape section. The bottom edges of all the pleating still has the basting thread through it, to help secure the pleating until the dress is finished. Then I will remove it and the pleating will drape properly.... I made a test bodice using the FID evening gown bodice pattern. I did have Victorian JID bodice patterns, but that was for a doll with a small bust, and Iris has a Large bust. Which just so happens to be the same size as an FID Medium bust. So I can use the pattern for both ladies.... So I made any minor pattern adjustments and started on the actual bodice. All the sections have been sewn together and clipped, and now I'm in the process of basting all the clipped seam allowances flat on the inside. It's very time-consuming, but it's almost impossible to press the seam allowances open without it.....
Being stuck at home means that other than my dolls, the only other thing worth taking photos of is my garden. More specifically, the backyard. There aren't really that many flowers blooming at any one time, so I try get creative and make it look like there are. It's all in the camera angles. The porch below is off my computer/doll room.... The day lilies are starting to bloom. There's not as many as the first few years, and each flower only lasts one day, so I try go out and take photos.... The backyard is mostly full of shade plants, in other words, mostly all green, so I create some colour by planting impatiens and begonias in pots and urns.... The birdbath is popular with a variety of birds.... I even have ONE exotic lily - a Star Gazer, which is my all time favourite. I think it came back after I was given a pot with them last year, and after flowering I planted it in the lily box. Years ago, I had hundreds of exotic lilies, but I lost the endless battle with the Japanese lily beetles, who destroyed them all. I wonder if it's worth trying to plant some again? I also like that the exotic lilies last for days, instead of just the one like day lilies. Day lilies are nice, but they don't come in the same vibrant pinks....mostly just reds, oranges and yellows....
Lawrence and Baron were talking......"Excuse me for a moment.." Lawrence stood up......"It's time to toast the birthday boy..." "To David....your Mother and I couldn't be more proud of the wonderful young man you are becoming. Here's to you, with hope for another great year." "Yes, to you David, with all our love..." "Cheers!"
