She had wanted to make Christmas dinner all by herself this year....
"How do I make the gravy Mom?"
"There's a girl and a boy, just like me and Eric..."
After opening their gifts everyone settled down for some quiet time.... Except for Lisa, who was busy in the kitchen. She had wanted to make Christmas dinner all by herself this year.... "How do I make the gravy Mom?" Nyssa loved her two new little twins.... "There's a girl and a boy, just like me and Eric..." Eric was interested in reading Nyssa's new books... While his Dad took out the new train set.... He had put little Sena where she couldn't get into any trouble.... Steve was a little disappointed that Eric wasn't as excited about the trains as he had hoped... ...but then, who had he really bought them for??? ...and Sena seemed to like them a lot as well.... So everything was good....
The room was full of excitement on Christmas morning, as the children opened their gifts.... Eric opened his gift to find a shiny new train set.... Nyssa got two new little baby dolls, and the next books in the series she'd been reading... Lisa got some new sewing supplies and a paint box.... But Sena was more interested in all the sparkly things on the tree...
I wasn't all that happy with Monica's big bushy wig. I don't have many wigs her size, so she had ended up with the Monique Ginger wig, but the curls are so huge, and I didn't like how Monica looked form the side in it. So I switched with Layla who was wearing the brown-black Monique Ciara wig. It has much smaller curls, and doesn't have such distinct side-swiped bangs. I liked that wig much better. So of course I had to take a few more photos....
Guess what I've been doing all day? Finishing Monica's gown. All the pieces were so close to being done two days ago, that today I just worked on it the whole day until I was finished. And of course that meant taking a photo.... It was rather challenging to put all together, but I'm pretty happy with it. I was surprised that the gown fit Monica as well as Bianca in exactly the same way. No back overlap required. Only the sleeves are a bit tight for Monica, and she has trouble bending her elbows. But then, queens don't exactly have to do much, so it will likely not be a problem. Especially not after she gets her new hands. I bought her a pair of the IH Fantasy FID hands with the long nails, which will get painted the same dark red as her lips and gown. I think she's gorgeous, and it would seem that Lawrence agrees..... I'm totally in love with the Fashion size dolls. It's probably a good thing they are only a recent development in the BJD world, or I'd probably never have gotten into all the smaller dolls, and the stories with them.
It's interesting how life tends to go round in circles, and I'm right back at the beginning again. Elaborate costuming has always been my first love, and now there's finally a nice size doll to make them for. Two of my favourite photos from last year's Santa story.......Ready to leave.... Almost done..... Finished for another year.... The whole Story - Here
Our two youngest grandchildren (3 & 5) both have a favourite stuffed kitty. Our daughter in her infinite wisdom bought three of each so there'd always be one available when the other had to go into the wash. The kids know that there's two, but don't know there's actually THREE. One day last summer, I came across a brand new bigger cat just like theirs at Value Village, and thought it could be their 'Grandma'. I had the idea to make some picture books based on a vacation with Grandma, and borrowed the third set of rather worn-looking kitties. I did take some photos in the summer with a book in mind, but haven't taken any more photos yet. For Christmas I thought I'd make them each a personalized Christmas Card featuring their kitty.... ...for Elliot..... ....and for Emily..... After the holidays I really need to get my act together and take the photos for those books....
Monica's gown isn't going very quickly this week with all the Holiday preparations going on. The second inner sleeve is slowly taking shape.... The first over-sleeve is finished. The beading took three nights to do, and the embroidery another. I'm on day three of the second sleeve, but it's nowhere near done.... I doubt there will be much time to work on them the next few days, but there should be time later this week. I'd really like to get this gown done.
Iris took the kids to see the holiday windows in town, and do a bit of last minute shopping.... Nyssa kept reminding her Mom all the things she was hoping to get for Christmas... "Christmas isn't just about presents..." "I need to go into the store for a minute. You two wait out here..." "I wonder what they are talking about??"
