After the Gift Opening

After opening their gifts everyone settled down for some quiet time....
Picture
Except for Lisa, who was busy in the kitchen.
She had wanted to make Christmas dinner all by herself this year....
"How do I make the gravy Mom?"
Picture
Nyssa loved her two new little twins....
"There's a girl and a boy, just like me and Eric..."
Picture
Eric was interested in reading Nyssa's new books...
Picture
While his Dad took out the new train set....
Picture
He had put little Sena where she couldn't get into any trouble....
Picture
Steve was a little disappointed that Eric wasn't as excited about the trains as he had hoped...
Picture
...but then, who had he really bought them for???
Picture
Picture
...and Sena seemed to like them a lot as well....
Picture
So everything was good....

I love this sequence! Everyone is settling down to enjoy their gifts and Iris must be happy to catch her breath after all the holiday preparations.
Steve and Sena are too funny! What better place to tuck a baby than in a gift box so she can play with her favourite part of the gifts - the wrapping paper and ribbons. Steve must be like thousand of dads who really wanted that train set so they could play with it! I know my Dad did!

So many of these doll story ideas are inspired by real life events. I guess illustrating the nostalgia of it all is the fun part for me. And who wants to just stick to the expected?

I remember one Christmas when I was maybe 6 or 7, and my younger brother was given a racing car set. My Dad and his older friend played with it the whole day. Then there was the Christmas one of my granddaughters was just one, and she spent much of the morning sitting inside a gift box. And who wouldn't enjoy a Christmas dinner cooked by someone else?

I especially love the last photo, where the family is all together.

We had a train set that ran around our Christmas tree. I don't remember if my Dad had it as a child or got it for the family. I used to love to put it together and see it run.
