the Big Surprise

4/30/2015

Mr. Ropuha was so touched by the girl's kind hearts, that he wanted to give each of them
a big hug and a kiss....Bonnie was the first. The other princesses watched in anticipation.
This was exactly what they had been hoping for.
Picture
They were expecting any second now for the frog to turn into a Prince.
But nothing happened.  Nothing at all.
"Okay," said Erzulie,"My turn.."
Picture
The others watched, as still nothing happened.
"My turn!" said Nami, and she knelt down to kiss him...
Picture
Mr. Ropuha knew full well what the girls were up to.
"They think I'm a frog," he thought,  "and if they kiss me they think I'll turn into a Prince.
But I'm a toad, and toads don't turn into Princes. But I'll just play along. After all,
everyone could use a couple of extra hugs and kisses on their birthday."

So after all the girls had had a turn, they just gave up
and let Mr. Ropuha take the cake and balloons back to his pond.....
Picture
"This is really yummy cake!  That was the best birthday ever!"

the Surprise Party

The Princesses had decorated the terrace with balloons, laid out their mother's best china
and silver cutlery, and were awaiting their guest of honour. Finally he arrived.......

"Happy Birthday Mr. Ropuha!"

Picture
He was very surprised, but being so short, he couldn't really see the cake very well,
so the girls quickly brought a couple of small benches....
Picture
Mr. Ropuha couldn't believe the girls had made that wonderful cake just for him,
and he needed to take a much closer look....
Picture
"Wow, you made me a cake with all my favourite proteins on top!"

A Birthday Surprise

Four little Princesses decided they wanted to make a cake for their friend's birthday. They know he likes all kinds of bugs, and small cold-blooded creatures like turtles and fish. They remember seeing just such a cake back in February, so will try 'duplicate' it for their friend.....

Erzulie and Elin mixed up the cake batter.....
Picture
After the cake was cooled and iced, they tinted the 'fondant' with food colouring....
Picture
Then it was Bonnie's job to paint on all the little figures around the outside...
Picture
...while Erzulie helped Elin, who was sculpting all the little bugs...
Picture
... the finished cake...

Look familiar to anyone?

More Scilla Photos

I liked the pictures of Asa and the fairies in the flowers so much that I wanted to take them back for a few more photos. It had been cloudy all day - perfect for doll photos - but in the evening the sky was mostly clear.  However, hazy late day sun is fine for doll photography too. The blue flowers were even nicer than they had been two days before, and this time I brought along a different 'poke-in-the-ground' stand for Asa so she wouldn't sink so low amongst the flowers....

The flowers are beautiful, and smell wonderful.....

Today I need to decide if there's anyone else I want to photograph in the scillas
before they are gone again for another year.

Aprons and Babies

4/27/2015

With my main sewing space upside-down I've been working on some smaller projects. I needed a small apron for some upcoming photos, then decided to make four.  After all, might as well, since there's nothing major I feel inspired to do. I tried some cross-stitch hearts on the first apron bodice, but in addition to it being very difficult to see what I was doing, it also didn't end up looking very good. So I picked it all out and started over with some tiny flower embroidery instead.....
Picture
Now several of the little girls can be helping out in the kitchen at the same time.

I also finally finished some 'Bundle Babies' that I'd sculpted the heads for a few months ago.
They aren't the cutest babies, since I never was good at sculpting "cute", but then, many
babies aren't really all that cute. Plus I reduced the stress of sculpting tiny mouths by
covering them with tiny sculpted pacifiers instead.
Picture
Erzulie decided the new aprons were also handy for pretending to play 'baby nurse'....

Went back to the scilla field to try out some more photo ideas, this time with my 'Queen of the Night' as Queen of the Fairies surrounded by her adoring little ones.....

Dolls and Ponies

Yesterday Teagan and I took some more photos of one of her dolls and Natalya's Ponies....
Picture
...but those Ponies do get a bit carried away....
Picture
Teagan's doll was a brand new one, and she came with a 'Rock Star' outfit, so of course we had to put together a band.........the 'Pony Generation' Rock Band. I pulled out some glittery fabrics and hung them off the chandelier and then the band was all set to play their first gig....

Happy Birthday!

Today is my birthday, and we went to take some more pictures in the scillas.
Like last year, I chose Byuri to be my 'birthday girl' again. I think of all
my small dolls, she's the one I personally identify with.....
Picture
My son and his girlfriend made me a birthday card......
Picture
It's Jan and I on one of our trips - him taking photos of his 'pet rock' everywhere, and
me shooting my dolls.  It's too funny, and makes me smile every time I look at it.
Thanks Mike and Tanya!

Spring at Last!

A few hours later, the snow has stopped, it's warmed up, and because Jan is working from home today, we take the opportunity before the sky clears to go to the Townline for this year's first photo session with the scillas....
Picture
"Mmmmm...these smell so good...."
Picture
When the sun peaks out between the clouds, the scent is amazing, but as soon as we are shaded by the clouds again, the scent disappears. I've brought along Lonnie, Ringo and Nami in their warm sweaters and hoodies because it is still rather chilly, but I've also brought along Holly in her beautiful lace dress. I figure my newest dolls deserve to be photographed here first......
Picture
Picture
Hopefully there will be some more cloudy periods this weekend so we can try another photo session. Sunny days are bad for photos here, as are most evenings since I'd be shooting into the sun, and the flowers keep growing, so by next weekend they might very well be too far gone for doll photos.

What Happened to Spring?

4/24/2015

What ever happened to spring? Is it ever going to come?  It's been very cold all week,
the bird bath is frozen, and it's snowing out there this morning.....
Picture
The scillas on the townline have been blooming for over a week already, but it's been either way too windy, too rainy, or too cold to go take pictures. But even at these temperatures, the scillas keep growing, and soon they'll be too tall for doll photos. Will there even be any this year?
