Even though it was the hottest day of the year so far, the kids were hungry after they got home from their first day of school, and Owen wanted to try out the barbecue I was in the middle of making, so he grilled them some hotdogs and hamburgers....
One evening on the weekend, after it had cooled down a little from the day's heat,
Owen took the boat to Frenchmen's Bay for a little paddle.... Big surprise, but some of my dolls actually do the casual 'regular people' look from time to time. I finally decided that Owen and Leona would be the 'contemporary' adults going on the fall trip this year, so made them both some new casual plaid shirts for hiking in the mountains. It's the Labour Day long weekend, and we're in the middle of yet another nasty heat wave. Owen has gone out into the sauna to barbecue, but isn't impressed that I don't have any miniature beer. "How am I supposed to barbecue in this heat without a beer?"
"Sorry dude, it's all I have. Unless you'd like some bottled water?" Well, I finally finished the photo album from our 2012 trip to the Pacific. I was determined to get it done before we go out there again this fall, so have been working on it all year. And now it's finally done! That trip was the first time I took several dolls along in order to shoot a Fantasy Adventure story. I decided to include some of the best doll photos throughout the scenic shots, since they were an integral part of the trip. Many of the doll photos were never processed - until now. So I thought I'd share a few today - sometimes along with the spots they were taken. Kyle at Waterton Lakes National Park, in Alberta. I had thought the Prince of Wales Hotel would make a great 'castle' in the background, so made sure to include it in the doll pictures... Pictures from Red Rock Canyon, also in Waterton Lakes, were never processed... And back in Ontario, Maya finding some nice stones at Sinclair Cove, on Lake Superior... I'm glad I'm finally done! The trip album turned out to be the biggest album ever, with just over 1,000 photos. But it was a four week trip through so many interesting places across both the USA and Canada. And I included doll photos this time. They were taken completely out of the sequence they would be in their Fantasy Adventure, and one of these days I need to put it all together into a comprehensive story. Many of the doll photos are in albums in Favourite Photos 2012. If you are interested in seeing the entire trip album - all 1,000 photos - and seeing where all the doll photos were taken, just click on the photo below.
The two MIM dolls arrived earlier this week. MIM (Make it Mine) dolls are low cost, posable, customizable, play dolls - 'BJDs for children" - developed by Paulette Goodreau. They are much like BJDs, except they aren't strung together, but have mechanical or pop-in joints. The dolls are 16" tall, and are a bargain, considering what they all come with; they come dressed in a simple two-piece outfit with flip-flops, have changeable eyes, wig cap, and wig, have extra undies, and come in a comfy zip-up sleeping bag with satin pillow. I ordered Taylor and Jasmine..... My one granddaughter loves her Our Generation dolls and brings them most Saturday mornings so we can take pictures. But we (mostly ME) are constantly frustrated by their lack of posability. So, after discovering the MIM dolls, and that my friend Charie had one, I asked to borrow her so I could show my daughter-in-law and granddaughter. They both loved her! So I ordered two - after all they need a friend. With Christmas and her birthday still several months away, I figured if I get them early enough, I can make some more clothes for them. I just had to take some photos. I figure my granddaughter doesn't go to my website anyways.... The dolls still need their necks adjusted so they can look up and down as well as from side to side, and I think they could use a size smaller eyes. Lily was playing so beautifully... The children were completely mesmerized, especially Coco. "Do you think I could learn to play like that?" Lily invited him to climb up on the railing with her, and handed him the lute.... Lily was a very patient teacher..... ..and Coco quickly got the hang of it... ...and soon he was playing some simple tunes.
I finally finished Lily's Summer Goddess costume this morning. Of course that meant I had to take some photos, and even though we are in yet another heat wave, I hauled out my 'palace railing' and set up on the patio table. Lily spent the last three weeks at Charie's, along with my four BIDs. Lily had her body lightly blushed to match her delicate complexion, and she had her odd, pointy Limhwa fingernails sanded down some. Then she was given a light manicure, and pierced ears. I think I really need to make her a lovely long mohair wig, but that will have to wait.
In the meantime she's enjoying playing her lute in the garden. |
