Well, today I'm going to tackle the giant lampshade, and then it's back to the two Celtic outfits. They are the 8th and 9th versions of that particular costume, and I think these will be the very last ones. It's just getting too difficult to repeat something that many times.
Today is Leonardo da Vinci's birthday. He was born in 1452, and was the greatest thinker, inventor, and artist of the Italian Renaissance. I made three little outfits from that period, just so my tiny girls could go and celebrate his birthday. April 15th is also the 58th anniversary of the opening of the very first McDonald's restaurant - in Des Plaines, Illinois - so there's also a small nod to that in today's photo as well. Thanks to Marianne for the loan of the figure of Leonardo da Vinci. We made him in January of 1994, and he is one of our most famous dolls. Marianne sculpted and painted him, and painted the Mona Lisa. I dressed and wigged him, and arranged the props, many of which were made by my husband. He won "First Prize, Original Doll, Direct Sculpt", at Santa Fe International Doll Art in 1996, and was later loaned to the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa for two years. Oh Martha, love love this photo, it is at the same time so cute and with humour. What a wonderful idea you had, the Leonardo figure is just at the perfect scale for the girls who are adorable on all the photos of the party. Will he finally paint darling Elin ? Thanks for the laugh !
