Leonardo's Birthday
April 15th is Leonardo da Vinci's birthday, and this set of photos was taken as part of my "Lesser Known Special Days" project. Leonardo was born in 1452, and was on of the Renaissance's greatest inventors and artists. I made a set of three tiny Italian Renaissance costumes for my little Iplehouse girls, so they could go visit with him and celebrate his birthday. April 15th is also the Anniversary of the opening of the very first McDonald's restaurant, so there's a nod to that in the photos as well.
"Could you paint my portrait too?"
"Master Leonardo, won't you stop painting for a minute, and have some cake?
"We made it specially for you."
Thanks to Marianne for the loan of the figure of Leonardo da Vinci. We made him in January of 1994. She sculpted and painted him, and painted the Mona Lisa. I dressed and wigged him, and arranged the props, many of which were made by my husband.
He won "First Prize, Original Doll, Direct Sculpt", at the Santa Fe International Doll Art Show in 1996,
and was later loaned to the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa for two years.
