A Vindictive Curse

"So, did you ever find out what happened and caused all this?"

"Yes, we did."

"It was set in motion by a dying fairy queen...."

"As you know, fairies live a very long time, but they are not immortal. They are also pretty easy going for the most part, letting everyone do whatever they like. But there are some rules."

"Any evil spells must come with some kind of escape clause, otherwise there would be dire consequences. Over the years sorceresses became more and more creative with trying to come up with almost impossible ways to reverse their spells, but the humans involved still always managed to break them."

"Well, this one very powerful old Fairy Queen really resented having all hers, and everyone else's, evil spells overcome, so she decided to have the last word, and create an even stronger curse to bring back everyone's evil spells. And this time with no escape clause. It would all be set in motion at the moment of her death...."

"....using up every last fibre of her remaining life force...."

" when it would be impossible for the Fairy Court to punish her. "

"So at the very moment of her death..."

"....every evil spell was suddenly reinstated..... and with no escape clause this time."

"Well, that explains why my entire court and I transformed into cats again, but what about Adrian here?"

"That's right! I wasn't affected by the original curse."

"Who is to say? Prince Phillip and his daughters weren't affected even though you were. Magic can be a funny thing."

"Hopefully the potion we administer this evening will set things straight."

Dinner

The four of them sat down to dinner...

"So, you said in your letter that we weren't the only ones affected by whatever is going on."

"Yes, all kinds of people who had previously been affected by some evil curse..."

"suddenly found themselves transformed again..."

Lucy and the Cook were eavesdropping, eager to hear what they were talking about...

"Some more wine, sir?"

"Yes, thank you."

"Some more wine, Ma'am?"

"Yes, please."

"Where was I??"

"Oh yes...the others affected. Several of them came to see us..."

"The Princess whose husband was suddenly a frog again..."

"Another Princess whose brothers were transformed into Ravens again.."

"And the Prince whose wife and everyone else in their castle suddenly fell unconscious, in a deep sleep again."

"The problem is very wide-spread, affecting almost everyone who was ever a victim of some evil curse."

"So we aren't the only ones!"

Back at the Castle

A few days later, the Wizard and Willie arrived at Kassia and Adrian's castle....

...and Lucy, the maid, ushered them in...

"Do you have the Transformation potion?"

"Yes, we do..."

"It's right here in my bag."

"We are all going to be human again!"

"Yes, that's what we're hoping."

"The potion needs to be taken before bed, with food.... preferably something sweet."

Adrian turned to the maid...

"Lucy, would you tell Cook that we will need all manner of desserts for this evening...."

"...enough for everyone."

"We're going to have a party!"

Bottling the Potion

With the potion done, it was time to pour it into bottles and seal them....

The Wizard handed her the little bottles...

"It's surprising how far this stuff goes!"

"And that's the last one..."

In the Lab

With the magic mushroom concentrate made, Willie and the Wizard were finally ready to create the Transformation Potion...

The science lab was always set up in the window where there was the best light...

The Wizard read the recipe...

...and handed Willie the various ingredients...

Some of which needed to be ground into fine powders...

"It says to heat the mixture..."

So she lit a candle to boil the mixture....

"I think it's ready..."

"What do you think?"

"It looks good to me..."

"Let's just hope it works."

Processing the Mushrooms

After picking the mushrooms, it was important to process them as quickly as possible, since they'd turn into 'black mush' by nightfall. So the Wizard and Willie set to work...

The Wizard had looked up the recipe....

While Willie lit the fire, and waited for instructions...

"It says not to chop them up.......they need to go into the pot whole."

"Add two firkins of distilled water to the pot..."

"...and fill it to the brim with the mushrooms..."

"Then let them simmer, and reduce, for two hours."

Mushrooms

Winston flew Willie to the secret grove where the special mushrooms grew.

They were right on time, since the mushrooms only lasted a single day...

Some little mouse fairies arrived...

"Winston and I just need a few of the mushrooms for a special Transformation formula..."

The little fairies were there to pick a few mushrooms themselves....

The fairies picked a few mushrooms and left. Then Willie started to pick some...

"These are perfect."

"How many do you need?"

"Not too many."

"About a dozen or so..."

"I think this is enough."

Ready to Go

Now that it was autumn, the special magic mushrooms would be popping up, so Winston arrived at the Wizard's home to take Willie to gather some....

"Do you need a map?"

"No, thanks. I know where they grow."

"Are you ready?"

"Yes. Let's go."

Caught in the Act

Kassia and her Lady in Waiting were scrambling around on the floor ....

..batting around the balls of yarn...

...when Adrian came in...

"What are you two doing?!?"

"...playing with yarn on the floor like a bunch of common house cats!"

"I tried.... so hard.... to resist...."

"I know it's hard...but you are better than this..."

He embraced her...

..and held her tight...

While her friend gathered up the yarn...

"I'm so tired of this!"

"I don't want to be a cat anymore!"

Needlepoint

Kassia had always enjoyed needlepoint....

..and had always enjoyed spending the afternoons together with her friend...

But with her big cat paws it was becoming increasingly difficult to do...and that basket of yarn was looking ever so tempting....

She tried her best to resist her feline instincts....

..but those balls of yarn were just calling out to her....

The temptation was just too great...

She had been a cat too long to resist all those balls of yarn...
