I took Little Lenny out for some photos with a local magnolia tree, but she wasn't happy that so many of the petals had damage from the cold and snow..... The magnolia only blooms for such a short time once every year, so it's always sad when the flowers get damaged and the petals turn brown.....
Nami, Efreet, and Judith were busy putting together some Lego shops.... Efreet was busy putting together his building.... Nami was working on one too... ...and Judith was helping her... Ringo had a brand new Star Wars Lego set.... "Could one of you maybe help me with my set?" "Sure. We just need to finish these first..." When they were all done, they put all their shops into a row.... ...so they could admire them... "Can we do my set now?"
May 16th was 'Love a Tree Day', so Talyssa thought she'd go out and give our trees a hug. First, one of our magnolias... ...then the other magnolia.... Unfortunately none of the other trees were accessible, so she hugged the bits of the decorative dead ones scattered throughout the garden.....
Lisa loves needlework no matter what time period she happens to be in. I saw her sitting in the garden working on a needlepoint pillow top.... She had finished the pansies.... ....and was working on filling in the background....
Yesterday, May 15th, was Straw Hat Day, as well as Chocolate Chip Day, so two of my little girls - Elin and Holly - got all dressed up to take a walk in the spring blossoms, and they took along some some chocolate chip cookies to enjoy for a snack.... It was challenging to take photos of them since we were dealing with bright sunshine as well as strong winds whipping the branches with blossoms all over the place. But they looked so lovely in their pretty dresses and hats, in the blossoms, that I ended up taking a lot of photos....
Yesterday, May13th, was 'Blame Someone Else Day'. Steve was bringing some of his wife's plants out to the patio for the summer, while the kids were out there playing with the dog. Suddenly there was a loud crash, and one of the prized cyclamen lay smashed on the ground..... "Okay, who did that!?!?" Eric and Nyssa pointed to the dog...."He did it!" "Oh really?" "He doesn't look especially guilty..." "But he did." "Bad dog!"
Last week we went to the woods, and took along Missy for some fairy photos... She picked a bouquet of trout lilies....
As much as I liked Jude's long, wild hair, I've been toying with the idea of seeing him in other outfits, ones that would require a shorter, more fashionable hair style. I didn't want to trim his existing wig, since once it's cut there's no going back. So I made him a second wig. I used the same mohair, in the same basic style, just half as long... I don't like making wigs. I know what I'd like it to look like in the end, but it's extremely challenging. Thankfully there was still enough of the original mohair left to make a second wig. Last time I just sewed the 4" - 6" mohair locks up the middle, making the wefts half of that. This time I cut the mohair in half, and sewed up the middle of that, then applied glue down the middle. After the glue dried I cut it into two strips (see my wig making tutorials) The strips look a bit messy with the mohair curling in every direction.... The mohair has a natural wave/curl to it, so it had to be glued onto the wig cap very carefully. For the front hairline I had to choose bits of mohair that curve the right direction and glue those on one tiny bit at a time, otherwise I'd be fighting the natural wave, and would never get the style I was looking for. It's very slow, painstaking work. I'm always pleasantly surprised when the wig turns out pretty much how I wanted it.
It could probably still use some fine tuning, but I'm leaving it as is for now... Jamie (an Iplehouse KID Paige boy) arrived today. I almost felt bad taking Milo's Fantasy costume and putting him back in his regular everyday outfit. I even toyed with the idea of stealing Milo's wig and giving him the new one I just made. But that didn't seem right, so Jamie got the new wig.... So now I have two Paige KIDs - a girl and a boy.... Jamie's Special Real skin is definitely easier to photograph. I had to wait until the Tylenol kicked in before I could take the photos. We went for our second Shingles shot yesterday, and we are both dealing with lots of side effects - fever, bad headache, chills, exhaustion, and hurting EVERYWHERE. So much for being told the second shot wouldn't be as bad as the first one. And that's on top of the extreme pain in my back the past six weeks. So I'm just sitting doing a bit of needlepoint. I still had two small squares of miniature canvas, and I could use a few more little pillows for people's homes, so I started one this morning. It was a bit challenging with a major headache and sore eyes, but I can't just sit there doing nothing..... I hope tomorrow will be better.
