Whistler

After taking the ferry back to Vancouver, we went the next day up the 'Sea to Sky Highway' to Whistler, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Their gondolas run all year - not just during ski season. It was a Sunday morning, and the village was very busy with tourists and mountain-bikers. Half the gondolas and ski-lifts get refitted during summer in order to accommodate bikes

Since we would be going on several gondola at a busy tourist site, I decided to just take my two smallest dolls along - Holly and Coco.

It was a rather cool morning, and I thought it would be very cold up on the mountain, so dressed them very warmly. We took the first gondola up to the top of Whistler Mountain...

It was getting way too warm for scarves and mitts, so they all came off. Holly
and Coco wanted a picture of themselves posing with the Olympic rings...

We had lunch at the chalet overlooking the gondolas back down to the village....

The Peak to Peak gondola connects the top of Whistler Mountain, to the top of Blackcomb Mountain and is the longest unsupported gondola in the world. The gondola spans 4 1/2 kilometres, but the middle section spans 3 kilometres between the two innermost towers, and dips deep into the valley between the two mountains. Gondola cars are spaced quite far apart, and there are two silver cars which have glass bottoms. Personally, I'd rather not look down through the floor, thank you!

On the way back to Whistler Mountain, we had a gondola car to ourselves, so the kids came out ...

That was a fun series of photos! The reflection in the window behind Coco in the gondola car is a neat peak behind the the scenes :o)

In the photo of Holly by the Olympic Rings, is that photographer in the background taking Holly's picture? Sure looks like he is.

And I totally agree about the glass floored gondola car... no way!!

In the photo of Holly at the Olympic rings, that's my son Michael, taking a photo of us taking a photo of Holly.

Hahahahaaa.....about your son taking a photo of you taking a photo of Holly! LOL!

And thank you for this tour of Whistler....I really only know it because of the Olympics so it was fun to see it without the snow.
And add me to the list of those who would not travel in a glass floored gondola car {{shudder}}
