Vilano Beach

4/10/2014

The morning we visited Vilano Beach, it was heavily overcast, and the ocean was very rough. Perfect for some doll photos! The sand here on the Atlantic Ocean was a golden colour, and the beach was covered with huge swaths of golden seashells. Some of the girls went looking for shells.

I've started a second Florida Trip album. The first was getting a bit big, and there were still too many photos to add. You can see the second album by going to Favourite Photos 2014, or clicking on the photo above. Photos from places I've not featured here on my Blog are not in the albums yet. Neither are all the photos from Navarre Pier. With those photos being around the midway point, I'm waiting to see which album turns out bigger, and then will add those photos either to the end of Florida Trip , Part 1, or to the beginning of Part 2.

I'm continuing with my two little Celtic outfits. I'm at the point where everything is very labour-intensive, so it doesn't go very fast. The embroidery on the tunics is almost done, and I'm in the process of sewing on the bead 'studs'. It's nice these tops are way too small a scale for real studs, since sewing on beads is a lot easier on the hands, and it's also a lot faster.

I love the first photo of Nami and Lonnie leaning over the bucket. ^^

The tunics are looking excellent so far. If you don't mind me asking, where do you get the crinkly fabric? I have a really hard time finding that in Ontario. :(

The crinkly fabric is called "crinkle gauze". It's 100% cotton. I first bought it at Fabricland several years ago. It was only available in the spring, and I bought quite a lot of different colours.Unfortunately, I got more of the lighter colours thinking I'd be using them for fairy costumes, but it is the darker colours which I've actually used more of, and those are almost all used up now, and Fabricland hasn't had any for the past couple of years.

I Googled 'crinkle gauze' and there's lots for sale online. Good to know there's still places to get it if I really need some.

Thank you! That could explain it. I've been looking at the wrong times of year.

I found some when I went to NYC, but only got white because I had to bring it back in my suitcase. Thank you for letting me know what it's called. ^^

Oh I love these photos!!!
This beach looks more 'wild' than the other ones you have visited this holiday. And it is lovely to see the girls having such fun......collecting shells never loses its magic!

And your idea of the sun hats is brilliant and certainly keeps the dolls hair under control. I have taken note about that......I am taking some of my dolls to the seaside at the end of May.

And what lovely work on the mini Celtic tunics.....do you draw the design on the fabric and embroider over the lines?

I am just going to look at the extra beach photos in your album now.

Yes, this beach is very different, and much 'wilder'. It's interesting how different the coast and the beaches are. Sometimes pure white sand, other times just crunched seashells. There also aren't all the hotels and resorts this far north in Florida.

Yes, hats work wonders in really windy places, like the seashore.

Yes, I draw the curls onto the fabric; white pencil crayon on the dark blue, and black on the red. The straight lines don't get drawn on.
