Under Construction

After deciding that Lawrence and Monica would have a bunch of kids, I needed to make some child size Medieval costumes. I had chosen a girl and boy in both KID and BID size.  Problem was, I only had a suitable Medieval costume for Nami (and similar sized BID friends) The only other ones I had are Fantasy Adventurer outfits which really wouldn't do for royal children at home in the castle. Which meant I had to make some.

So first up would be the KID girl gowns.  I chose two different fabric combinations. I figured I might as well make two right away, so Paige would have something to change into, or she could have a friend to join her from time to time.

The sleeves were made first, and then they were sewn into the bodices....

After sewing the underarm seams and hand-stitching the linings inside the bodices, the next step will be the skirts.  I wasn't really paying attention to 'fabric drape' when I chose the various fabrics. They are all super flimsy, synthetic brocades, all cut from used clothing from Value Village, and are proving very challenging to work with. I chose them because they were 'thin', but they are very slippery and fray like crazy.  But I'm determined to push on and make them work.....

I love the color selections. I love the purple/pink and the yellow together. I can't wait to see what the gowns will look like.

I see you are already planning some adventures for the family you are creating.

I'm liking how the children work with the FIDs and think that makes for more interesting interactive photos, so decided to make the kids some more appropriate outfits.

I have wanted to throw a Medieval feast for a while now, but decided to hold off until the children's clothes are done. David is due his one year anniversary party, and since he's one of the KIDs designated to go back in time and become part of a medieval family, what better reason for a big banquet than a Prince's birthday?
