Two Renaissance Girls

3/30/2015

I finally finished the first two Renaissance costumes. I had hoped to take photos of them at the Ruins Gardens in Guildwood, then in the studio, so I could move on and use the girls for the next two costumes. But it was way too windy, so I just took a couple of quick photos in the backyard.

I decided that I didn't need to make a 'dressing ball' to replace Rosy's one hand after all - I just used a large S-hook to keep the elastic from shooting up inside her arm. It was a bit fidly to remove her hand and put it back on after dressing her - I could have used an extra hand of my own - but it worked perfectly, and Rosy looked beautiful in the green, especially with her long red hair....

And then there's Ryung in the dark red version....

So now I'm working on finishing the last two, and hoping to take photos some time later this week.

Those are so beautiful! Your work is amazing. I've been reading your blog for a while now (though this is my first time commenting) and I just love your creations and your photography. :)

I also have a question for you: I'm hoping to start sewing for my own dolls soon, and I was wondering, where do you get the tiny eyelets that you use? I love medieval and Renaissance fashions and want to make some for my dolls, but I have no idea where to find eyelets tiny enough for their dresses (the dolls I'm working with are mainly MSD-sized). Thank you for your help!

Most of my eyelets come from Michaels in their scrapbooking department. I think they are 4mm. I use them for both SD and MSD, and even YoSD costumes. I've seen even smaller eyelets for sale at Mimiwoo - http://stores.ebay.com/Mimi-Collection/Eyelet-/_i.html?_fsub=522040119&_sid=108903569&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 but have no idea what they'd be like to put in.

Oh wow! I love the costumes and I just love how the wind is blowing their hair.
The girls look so alive in the wind!

And I took those photos when the wind actually died down for a moment. I was afraid the dolls would blow over, even though they were on stands.

Oh Martha they look so beautiful. I will look forward to seeing the others when you've finished them.
Hugs,
