Tiny Stands

Now that my Forest Dwellers are getting clothes, they need a way to stand on display.  Until now I've just kept the mice and toads seated in a small basket, and the foxes and raccoons seated on a wicker bench, but that won't work anymore once they have clothes.

I looked online at all the major doll supply companies and couldn't find anything suitable. Yes, there were some really small stands, but I know from experience that one can never tell exactly what one is going to get until it arrives.  My favourite place to get doll stands was always at doll shows where I could see them in person.

So, that left making my own stands.  Jan had a collection of small mdf circles which would do nicely as bases. He cut dowels to the right heights for the various characters, drilled holes down into the ends of the dowels to accommodate the bent wire supports, and filled the holes in the middle of the mdf circles with plastic wood.....

I painted the bases dark brown and bent wires to shape for the supports.  It was only 18 gauge wire, since anything thicker wasn't going to fit into the holes. But it's just to support the little guys when standing in my china cabinet....

Thanks. As they say, 'necessity is the mother of invention'. I can balance them (with considerable difficulty) for photo scenes, but for display I needed something more reliable, and these will work fine.

Now you can add stand making to your list of doll achievements. The stands look just perfect!
