This and That

Yesterday was a busy day.  I had really wanted to take a few more photos with some dolls in the scillas on the town line, but there were showers in the forecast, so we tucked our pants legs into our socks, and headed over first thing in the morning when the sun was still struggling to come through, and before the rain clouds moved in.

I brought Miho and Winston, and will post more photos of them at a later date.....but just had to share one....
Picture
I also brought Baron and Naomi for some scenes that will get posted some time later this year..

Then we headed over to Hamilton to find Sussman's Supplies, a store that used to be on Queen Street in downtown Toronto. I used to go there every year or two and stock up on my favourite trims that no one else carried. I hadn't been there in years, and I knew the shop had moved to Hamilton, and I had run out of several colours of my favourite trim.

The lady at the shop said sales had been really bad the past few years, and she was considering closing the store.  So I figured I better stock up, just in case. After all, the shop wasn't exactly the easiest to go to. It requires an hour and a half along some of North America's craziest, busiest highways, which are often stop and go even in the middle of the day.  But I really wanted to get some more trims....
Picture
I couldn't resist getting some mulberry paper flowers as well. I'd have loved to get a lot more - they have so many gorgeous colours in so many great sizes - but I didn't have an unlimited budget.
Picture
It will be a shame if the store closes.  I always loved going there. It was always packed with racks with row upon row of beads in all colours and sizes, feathers in every colour and size, fabric and paper flowers, and whole walls with endless rolls of laces and trims. A costumer's paradise.
Picture
Most of the things in the shop can't be found anywhere else - at least not in person at a real store -  but I managed to restrain myself and 'only' bought $200. worth. So now I'm all set for a while!

I love the photos, especially the wedding one.

I am glad you made it to one of your favorite stores. I know how it is to lose a store that one likes. I really liked AC Moore and now it is closed. I am not a crafter but there were boxes and bins and dolls stands that the store carried that I really liked.

Thanks. Baron and Naomi just photograph so well. I shot the scenes that will take place on their wedding day after their reception, which is still a long way off, but I had to share at least one photo, since they were so nice.

Over the years so many great stores have closed, and it gets harder and harder to find good supplies. I don't like ordering stuff online since I really prefer to see it, and feel it, in person.

Baron and Naomi and especially their costumes are just beautiful! And I couldn't agree more about being sad when stores close. Your 'special' store certainly explains why i always wonder to myself (when I see your creations) where did she get that trim/metal piece/lace/bead/fabric? Maybe Canada has better stuff than we do in the States, I hope your store stays open. They tore down the whole mall 4 miles from where I live a few months ago! I'm with with you in wanting to see and touch (especially fabric!) I went shopping today to find a dress for a wedding (I COULD make one for myself, and may end up doing that) but there's hardly any stores to look in anymore. Yes, there is still a mall, but it's almost 20 miles away, and the traffic to and around it is awful. Sigh.

The wedding photo is wonderful! Jealous of your craft store...here in rural Alaska we have only Joannes in the next city over and it doesn't carry much in the way of small trims. I've ended up with 3 organizer boxes of trim/ribbon because I always buy extra just in case. We had a quilt shop that had some lovely trim but it closed a couple years ago, pre-pandemic.

Thanks. I just wish that store was easier to get to.

Don't you just hate when a store you always went to closes? Over the years there's been too many to count. I suspect they just don't get the buyers like in the old days. Not many people make stuff anymore. So it makes it a lot harder for the few that still do.

How do you store all your trims? I always have the hardest time storing mine and keeping them nice. You have so many beautiful new trims

I wrap them on cards by colour. I just reorganized all my trims last month, and now with all these new ones I'm going to have to do it all over again.
