the Cellphone

Bianca started getting calls from friends and family wishing her a Happy Birthday....
Picture
When Rosie arrived with another entree.....

Picture
This was not turning out to be the evening Rex had had in mind....
Picture
"Sweetie, you know, that phone is ruining the 'Medieval' atmosphere."
Picture
"Your family and best friends have already called you, so it's time to put the phone away."
Picture
"Here, I'll take it...."
Picture
Bianca reluctantly passed it to Rex, who offered it to Rosie.
"Could you take this, and put it in the coat check with my cloak, please?"
Picture
But Bianca interrupted...
"Could you please just take one more photo of the two of us before you bring it away?"
Picture
Rosie was only too happy to oblige, and finally get the phone out of the room....
Picture
"There you go."

LOL I know, I'm so bad. But I think with the phone gone, the evening can finally proceed as Rex had hoped.

*chuckle* I've been out at restaurants with friends and family members who do the same thing. Good for Rex (and Rosie). : )

It's so extremely annoying.

And since this story takes place in modern times, I figured a little 'social commentary' might be warranted. Something to set themse photos apart from when the true owners of the outfits come back, and I start taking photos back in 'real' Medieval times.

LOL. Love it. Kinda reminds me of the time Mom and I were at a Chinese restaurant, and some woman at a "party table" got a call and walked over to stand over our table and yell into her phone. Mom and I both looked at her and said, "How rude these people with their cell phones are." The woman stepped back, her face wet red, and she ran away towards the front of the restaurant. People just don't get it sometimes. :-)

Yup. Or like when we took our son and partner out for lunch, and they are constantly responding to calls. Like, can't it wait a half hour??

Finally a little time for romance and celebration.

I love the story Laura shared. How did some people exist before cell phones?

I don't have a cellphone, and survive just fine. In fact it gives me more time to be creative.

This is why I am one of the last remaining people I know to carry a flip phone. I am still raising children, and did not want them to ever doubt what my priority was when we were together. My two older daughters (early 20s) both carry smart phones and quickly became addicted to constantly checking them. We've all been visiting with someone we haven't seen in a while and have all seen them answer the siren's call of the smartphone...it's just sad. I know the time is coming when I HAVE to get one (this year most likely) but I'm going to wear a holster bag for it rather than feel like I have to carry it in my hand all the time--but then, I resisted getting a cell phone at all 19 years ago. LOL How nice it was to go somewhere and NOT be at the beck and call of everyone who has my number...just for a little while. Do smart phones have off buttons? Hmm...

I hear you, and totally agree. I don't have one either. Whenever we are around family, they are constantly on their photos. It seems rather rude to me.

Yes, the phones have off buttons. You're supposed to turn them off in certain places - like theatres.
