With flurries in the forecast, and the temperature set to plummet today, I wanted to try take a photo of the 'Arrival of Winter', much like the 'Departure of Summer' that I shot a few months back in the fall. So yesterday afternoon, we packed two dolls and their horse in the car, and went in search for a suitably snowy setting. I had hoped to use the same spot I'd taken the autumn pictures, but it wasn't snowy enough there. We finally ended up at the head of a hiking trail winding it's way into the forest. It was snowing lightly, and the already-fallen snow wasn't very deep, so it was the perfect depth scale-wise for the dolls and their horse.... I had decided to use Kassia as Queen of Winter, and wanted to use Lonnie again as her attendant. But what could she wear? I don't have a lot of spare doll clothes, especially in white, and with just one day's advance notice, there wasn't time to make something new from scratch. So I borrowed my Butterfly Narae's white 'Clara' dress, and made two slip-on sleeves and a white velour cloak. I thought Lonnie looked beautiful, and I loved Kassia against the snow-covered trees.... Winter arriving in the forest.... My biggest challenge was that white against white doesn't show up too well, but I wasn't going to lay down flat in the snow. In fact, I sat well back (on a garbage bag) with the long zoom lens on my camera. That gives pretty much the same effect without me turning into a snowman.

Thanks! I had thought to continue my series of photos of the 'arrival, or departure, of the seasons,' and was rather pleased with these myself.
