Summer Melt

After two days of miserable weather, we were at the top of the Western peninsula near St. Anthony. We had hoped there would be icebergs, but there were none. It was another miserable day, but with all the rain the past few days, all the falls were rushing with water...

We went exploring anyways, going down all the little roads, and came to St. Carols. Just past the dock in their harbour, there was a trailhead, and there were still huge snow drifts along with a small waterfall.  I immediately though 'doll photo opportunity'!!  After all, how many times would I get the chance to shoot snow scenes in July?? There were snow drifts everywhere up in the north there, and I had been checking them out,  but this one was actually accessible....
.....plus there was a waterfall....

So I put on their warmest clothes, and out they came....

It looked like they were on the edge of a glacier....

Spectacular scenery and equally spectacular photos! I love this sequence of pictures. Rex and Bianca are having a very interesting adventure. In the close-up of Bianca with her hand slightly outstretched, she looks apprehensive, as though she was telling Rex not to go to close to the edge of the glacier.

Interesting. That photo makes me think she's reaching out to Rex for some support on the slippery ice.

It was really hard posing the dolls on that snowbank because it was so steep, and the surface of the snow was just solid ice. I rammed their stands into it some, but was very apprehensive about them toppling over.

At least I got my snow pictures. We were surprised by just how much snow was still in sheltered spots all over Newfoundland - and not just in the far north.

The photos are incredible! The scenery is amazing.

I hope you did not have to lie down in the snow.

What was the temperature?

I thought Bianca was saying to Rex, "let's not go any farther." I like that in one of the photos he takes her outstretched hand.

No, I did not get down. Everything was soaked from all the rain. Fortunately the snowbank was raised somewhat (Jan too a photo, which I'll post later)

I think it was in the single digits temperature-wise. The day before it had been pouring rain with strong winds and a HIGH of 6C. So very cold.

I started out with them holding hands, but seem to have only taken one photo with them like that, before things changed. I think Rex slipped or something, and they didn't go back in the same positions.
