Sock Yarn Sweaters

I'm guessing everyone is expecting to be seeing the purple party dresses by now, but I've hit a 'road-bump'.  The weekend getaway, as nice as it was, put a real crimp in my momentum on the taffeta Christmas dresses.  It also didn't help that I brought along some knitting in case I had some free time - which I had plenty of while we were babysitting Elliot and he was napping.

Last week I picked up several new balls of sock yarn at Michaels. They were on sale, and I need to make at least three more little sweater sets - for Ringo and the two new little BIDs - so I chose four colours. Knitting these tiny sweaters is very pleasant work, so it becomes very addictive. The first sweater I'm knitting is from a variegated yellow, green, blue and purple yarn called "Sapphire" by premier yarns.   I suspect it will be for Ringo.....

Because I was having difficulty getting back into sewing the dresses, I thought I better just cut out the Nellie dresses and work at them at the same time, or else I may not want to start them at all. It was a huge challenge trying to fit all the pattern pieces out of the leftover fabric, but I managed after making a few design changes. At least, I've managed to cut out the purple and pink ones. The blue fabric is still waiting on the cutting table.   So now I'm sewing the purple Nelly dress simultaneously with the other two purple dresses. Saves having to constantly change the thread on my sewing machine. If I manage to resist the knitting, maybe there will be pictures tomorrow. After all, every minute not spent knitting, is an extra minute to spend sewing.

The knitting looks fabulous and I hadn't realised that you knitted the body of the sweaters on 4 needles.
Clever!

And well done about getting yourself motivated to sew again. You are more disciplined than I am.......I am only knitting for my gang at the moment, the sewing can wait! LOL!

This is only the second sweater I've knit in the round - at least up to where the back opening begins, and then it's back and forth again. With the way the colour changes in this yarn, I was concerned the sweater would end up all one colour on one side and another on the other side. It will be interesting to see how the colour pattern changes once I start going back and forth.

Beautiful colours! I love the sweater sets you make for your little ones.

Knitting the body of the sweater on four needles is such a good idea. Even for cardigans it would work. I dislike working with circular needles and can't find straight needles in the very small sizes that are long enough to hold all the stitches once the sleeves are added in. Thanks for the inspiration :o)

Thanks! I really like knitting them. Right now I'm just past the back split so I'm going back and forth with the five needles, because there's no way to stretch it wide open enough to do it with just two. Eventually I hope to reduce that to three, and then once I'm further up the yoke it can be done with just two needles. I wish these needles were longer, but they are from a sock-knitting set I got at Michaels (with a 50% coupon of course) and these are the finest ones of the four sets of five needles. Right now the sleeves for this sweater are temporarily waiting on the one size larger needles, as I need all five of the finer ones for the sweater body.
