So Much Stuff!!

5/22/2014

The two BID Jennet outfits are coming along nicely, and today I'm working on the leather bags and cloaks. I've made so many of these tiny leather bags over the years, and they are very labour-intensive. Plus I always need to haul out so many boxes of supplies - and all for such a tiny little bag. I thought I'd take a photo. Keep in mind this is just with the boxes all neatly closed, before the scrounging around begins while looking for just the right stuff. When opened, and spread out - because what I need is never at the top - the stuff takes up half the floor.......
Picture
That's two big, heavy boxes full of leather - for the bag itself, and for the ties and belt.
A plastic drawer full of studs and metal bits - for just two tiny decorative studs for 'clasps'
A drawer full of jump rings - for two jump rings per bag
A drawer full of tiny buckles - for two for each bag
Two drawers of embroidery floss - in the colours for the bit of embroidery on each bag
Box of needles - for the glover's needles for sewing leather
And that doesn't include the thread, scissors, the bag of snaps for the bag closures, or the glue.
And finally, the basket with size 6/7 wigs, because my costume model needs a different wig
All needing to be hauled out, then after finding what I need, everything has to be put back where it belongs.  All for two tiny bags!   And it will probably take the entire day to complete them.

Haha, love this. I'm working on an outfit with tonnes of little bitty details and the number of boxes and bins that need to come out... and the amount of digging that ALWAYS needs to get done has meant a huge explosion of stuff all over my craft room. XD Can't wait until I can clean it up again.

I think anyone who sews or does crafts has this same problem. I don't usually mind so much when it's fabrics I'm looking for, but when I need all this just to make an inky dinky 1" square little leather bag, it really bugs me! Then to top it off, I don't have a 'craft room', but work in my living room. Fortunately my grandchildren all come over every Saturday morning, so I always have to make sure everything is all cleaned up every Friday night.

I find it very hard to work with a mess around me. I have to clear up and pack away as I go along. It makes the job take so much longer, but I simply cannot concentrate on the task in hand if I know something could be packed away!

I keep looking at the photo and seeing that tiny bag on top of all this storage, it does seem *daft* but I am so envious of your stash of materials........wow!

I can't stand a mess around me either, so I clean up as I go as well, and sometimes it's too soon, and I have to haul the box back out again!

And those are just the boxes with leathers! I have boxes like that with all kinds of different fabrics tucked away everywhere. I'm not sure how many - more than thirty. There's velvets, velours (2), quilt cottons (3), sheers, satins and linings, warm colour brocades, cool brocades, warm colour metallics, cool metallics, tricots, stretchy, lace fabrics, saris, warm fancy yarns, cool fancy yarns, mohair, rough fabrics, extremely rough fabrics, crinkle gauze, scarves from the secondhand shop .....and that's all I can remember right now.

Oh my goodness! But how wonderful at the same time........all those boxes of fabrics! *gasp*

Now if I could just muster the energy to use them all up!
Probably would take several lifetimes.
