Snow Ridge Mountains

Driving across the US, our first destination was the Snowy Ridge Mountain Scenic Byway along the borders of Southern Wyoming and Northern Colorado. We'd taken it once before, and it's a spectacular drive high through the mountains. But as we approached, the sky darkened, and it started to rain. At the higher elevations (over 10,000') it was snowing - and not just snowing, but a veritable blizzard. Even so, Bonnie and Owen decided to brave the conditions and venture outside

It got pretty wild, and they were caked in snow in no time, so they came in and dried off, and we went on to Marie Lake. There it was just drizzling, so Peach and Bonnie went out to have a look....

We love this scenic road. It's totally untamed wilderness, and not swarming with tourists - in fact it was pretty much deserted that afternoon, and we only saw two other people actually out of their cars. I had had all kinds of plans for the dolls to be hiking in the wilderness there, but with the snow, drizzle, and then heavy rain, it just wasn't possible.........so maybe next time......

Oh wow! What a wonderful route *gasp*
And how brave of you to actually get out into the blizzard too! Thank goodness the dolls were dressed in warm cosy knitwear!

I figured since we'd made the effort to go there, I really had to go out and take a few pictures. The snow was whipping horizontally in the fierce wind. Jan and I got just as covered in snow as Bonnie and Owen - if not more so.

Welcome home!!

What spectacular scenery, not to mention the early taste of the winter to come! I love how you placed the photo of Bonnie and Owen with their backs to the oncoming wind just below the one of the trees swept bare of their branches. It really shows how relentless the wind is.

The two little girls in their bright sweaters are like two little flowers in a green and gray wilderness.

Yes, the doll's sweaters are sometimes the only colour in what often looks like a 'black and white' environment.

One had to have their back to the wind up there in that blizzard. We were just at the 'tree line', where trees grow very slowly, all stunted and gnarled from the extremely harsh conditions. With the fierce winds, branches only grow one direction.

It is a spectacularly beautiful place though.

I love the pics of Owen and Bonnie covered in snow just to darn cute.
