This week I need to work on a baby quilt for our next granddaughter. We went to Len's Mills near Yorkdale last Saturday to look for a quilt panel. Len's Mills has the biggest fabric selection anywhere, especially in printed cottons. Row upon row, all sorted by theme. In the 'Girl's Prints' row we found some Flower Fairy panels. There were three, each one with a selection of Cecily M Barker's Flower Fairies in a particular colour scheme. One had all pink fairies, but as beautiful as it was, I thought maybe it was just a bit "too pink". I mean, not until the baby arrives will we be 100% sure she really is a girl. Pink just seemed a bit risky. There was also a panel in blues and yellow. But the one that really caught my eye was the 'Night Fairies' panel in blues and purples.
We are having the craziest 'non-winter' this year! I saw a couple of robins in my backyard a few weeks ago, but yesterday when we came home from the quilt shop, all the trees out front were filled with robins. I've never seen so many at once, ever. It was a balmy 9 Celsius, and with all the birds chirping and singing, it felt like spring. But it was the end of January! The robins were in all the trees, especially the mountain ash and all our crabapple trees, helping themselves to all the fruit. There were well over a hundred! I quickly grabbed my camera, but with it being so dark and overcast, they aren't the best pictures ever. However, you get the idea.... As I said, I went to the quilt store yesterday. I wanted to look for some other salt-dye fabric, similar to the one I used for my dragon, but in a different colour. I found some fabric that was similar - in fact, almost the same, but with touches of purple. That should work really well for a second, larger dragon. I'm not starting on him any time soon - I have to wait until the arthritis pain in my shoulders and arms settles down - but it's exciting just to have the fabric already.

Our winter feels the same. It's too warm and too wet and very stormy.
