Ready for Hockey Season

7/29/2018

Last week on our regular Senior's Day visit to Value Village, Jan found some packaged miniature NHL hockey jerseys. They looked about the right size to fit my dolls, so we bought one to try....
Picture
It was a touch short in the arms and overall length, but was doable. Then I wondered if there were any Canadian team jerseys in the series, and sure enough on Kijiji there was someone listed who had them at the local flea market - some for just $2. each.  I had thought it would be fun to get a bunch of the same so i could have a 'team', but the guy had only brought singles of everything. So assorted jerseys it was going to have to be. They came packaged like this....

Now I had hoped to use them for the KIDs and BIDs, but they were way too big. But some of the jerseys - the ones with central logos, and without different coloured ends of the sleeves - could be taken in and made smaller. Like all the Team Canada ones. So I trimmed some off the bottom, and off the ends of the sleeves, and off the underarm/sleeve seams, and then re-sewed them.

The modified shirts were still a bit big, but then hockey jerseys have to go over a lot of padding, so they'd work just fine for a KID.

I don't know....true blue sports fans might frown upon me meddling with a 'collector item', but for just two bucks each, I really don't care.  I look at them as the perfect cheap doll accessory find.

The guy at the flea market had a couple of loose, smaller jerseys, and one middle sized Maple Leafs one, which fits a BID. At first I was going to give it to Efreet, but considering that it's been forever since the Leafs have won the Stanley cup, I figured Ringo should get it instead.

So now, even though I've never had even the slightest interest in sports at all, I have a group of dolls all set for the next hockey season....ready to root for their favourite teams - or to play some street hockey.

I guess I'm going to have to figure out how to make them a net now.

Those are great! I'm not much of a sports person, but do enjoy hockey. I'd love to find those for Chicago Blackhawks or San Jose Sharks! I know you'll have great fun and an amazing photo shoot with these.

I have no idea what teams are in the series, but I got two US team jerseys, so there must be more. The series seems to be a Canadian item.

Dear Martha, again, you are amazing. I love the team look. I sure hope Ringo's team wins. We don't want him to be any more upset than he is usually (chuckle).
We don't have a Value Village where I am. I am going to do a Google search and see if the franchise is in the US. You find such great things there.

There's really no point in googling Value Village. It's a secondhand discount store, so only sells whatever people donate.

You'd be better off googling 'miniature hockey jerseys'. That's what i did after I found the first one. But the series seems to be a Canadian thing.

They sure look like hockey fans! Ringo is the perfect one to be wearing the Toronto Maple Leaf's jersey alright :o) Reminds me of the joke that ends with the temperature being -295C at which point hell freezes over and Toronto wins the Stanley cup! Poor Ringo.

There are some of the little jerseys on eBay, but at ridiculous prices.

Yes, Ringo is a diehard Leafs fan, even though his team never wins the cup.

I want to go back to the flea market to see if the guy has anymore of the Leafs size jerseys, since I'd really wanted more for the little kids. Adult fans is all fine and good, but I can have way more fun with the little guys (and girls) playing hockey.

"considering that it's been forever since the Leafs have won the Stanley cup, I figured Ringo should get it instead"

A truer statement there never was. XD

Definitely! The frown because they never win the cup, but still wearing the jersey because they are his home team.
