Ready for Bonnie

11/21/2013

It's been a rough week, but I've finished Bonnie's outfit, so now whenever she comes home, she'll have something nice to wear. I had wanted something a little different, a dress with a nice white collar. After studying the lovely new black and white IH BID outfits, I noticed that the collar on one of the dresses was one piece in the front, so I drew up a pattern for a pointed collar that could be sewn in one pice, but inserted in such a way that it looked like it was two separate pieces. That was so much easier than trying to match up two separate collar pieces! I also went with my initial idea of having stretchy sleeves. The sweater has so many threads on the inside that would catch on a doll's finger, but with a dress with a stretchy sleeve I can pull it down over the doll's hands and cover all those little fingers. Then it's easy to pull on the sweater over top.

Just got back from my annual eye specialist appointment, and the news was good - my macular degeneration hasn't gotten any worse this past year.  Yay!!  However, with my pupils dilated from the eye drops, I can't see well enough to do much of anything right now.

I'm almost finished the Christmas Tutorials, and wish I could share photos, but I really shouldn't. Hope and Layla look so cute in their holiday outfits, like they are all ready to decorate the tree, or do some holiday baking. I need to take some holiday photos of them, but it's still a bit early for the Christmas decorations. However, I really do need to take photos, so maybe we better just start decorating the house - or I have to create a festive back drop. Which is less work?

What a brilliant idea about the stretchy sleeves......I was wondering if you would have to use 'dressing mittens' to get the cardi on.
This is a lovely arrival outfit for Bonnie.....I am so looking forward to seeing her soon!

And wonderful news about your eyes, what a relief! ((hugs))

Bonnie's outfit is beautiful! the stretchy sleeves are a great solution (and pretty). The dress complements the sweater perfectly!

and congratulations on the good news from the eye doctor!

That's a beautiful outfit. I'm amazed to read that the collar on the dress is made in one piece. What a great idea ! The sweater is just perfect in any way, love it !
Also I'm happy for you about the good news from the eye doctor.

Hi Martha
I love Bonnie's outfit. Wish the weather would clear up and let me paint.I am still very tired from the trip but so want to paint. Tried spraying an old body and spray ran so I gave up till the weather improves. This cooling and warming is not helping much. Ah well maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
Hugs Charie

I just hope the colour suits her. If not, it looked amazing on Byuri.

There's four days of flurries ahead, and I don't know if that's as bad as rain.

Glad to hear the eye doctor report was positive.

Thanks for sharing the outfits. You have inspired a lot of my recent sewing activities. I used to sew a lot when I was a teenager, and on into my early adulthood, but then it got easier to buy clothes (and more expensive to make them).

Now that I am collecting dolls, I like using your patterns and instructions (and I do a little modification so they will work with some of my dolls better).

I just bought a Hujoo/FallinDoll Rose. Instead of resin, she is abs plastic, but she is heavy like a resin YoSD and so cute. I am already planning outfits for her.

Thank you.

Thanks! I'm glad you find my patterns useful. With all the different body sizes it's no surprise you'd have to alter some to fit dolls other than the ones I designed the patterns for. But it's always nice to have a "jumping off point".

Martha that's a brilliant idea about the stretchy sleeves on the dress! Leave it to you to mix form and function to perfection.

And major BIG gigantic YIPPEEE about your eyes!! You must be so very pleased and hugely relieved to put it mildly.

I don't know if I'd mix stretchy sleeves with a cotton collar for a larger doll, but with the tiny dolls I needed the help getting the sweater over the sleeves.

The eye specialist seems to only care if the macular degeneration is still the dry kind or the wet. As long as it's still the dry kind he declares it good news. But in truth I am experiencing increasing eye strain and difficulty seeing, especially dark colours and harsh contrast like sun and shade.
