Progress on Miho's Gown

I work on Miho's new gown every day, but there's so much to do on it that it goes rather slow. I finished embellishing her underskirt....

Then I spent much of the week working on the bodice. Miho has the larger Athletic FID body, and the only patterns I had were for her off-the-shoulder green floral gown, so I had to design a new bodice that could accommodate sleeves. Then make a test bodice to check for fit.....

It was slow going trying to decide on the fabrics to use, and things changed as I went. I didn't really know what the final dress was going to look like - just had a general idea - so pretty much let the dress decide what I should use, taking one small step at a time.

The basic bodice is now ready for the final embellishments, and then I can add the skirts. The hanging sleeves will get sewn on by hand once the rest of the dress is finished.

I laid out all the parts so far, so I could get an idea of what the final gown will look like....

I still need to finish the beading and embroidery on one of the hanging sleeves. I did not bead the front skirt edges right up to the top, since my sewing machine doesn't like the bulk. So I'll finish that beading once the skirt is sewn onto the bodice. The bodice neckline still needs flower petal embellishment to match her underskirt. And it needs something at the waist, but I'll worry about that later. I also have to decide on which kind of wings I'm going to make. I'm leaning towards removable 'dragon' wings, as opposed to 'fairy' wings.

Yesterday I made her petticoat - white ruffles with black lace edging.....

The next step is to embellish the bodice neckline, and once that's done I can sew on the skirts.

Her gown is going to be stunning! It has been so interesting to watch it evolve with each new post.

Did you do all the beadwork on the central panel of her bodice?

I hope so. The front panel is gold lace, not beading.

I've been having so much trouble with it today. I stitched sheer petals along her neckline FOUR times, and in the end picked everything off AGAIN!!. It just wasn't going to work. So now I have one more option left, which I hope will look good.

I'm even starting to question wings. And I think she will need a handmade wig, since I don't have anything that will look good with this gown. Another of my least favourite things to make.

Oh wow, that is beautiful. Martha's Magic, absolutely stunning.
Dragon wings should be great. That dress doesn't look like fairy.

Thanks. Even with 'dragon' wings, she would still be a fairy - like Maleficent.

I echo Donna and Brigitte "stunning!" Will there be a party or a ball when it is finished?

Thanks. I have no idea where she will appear first, other than some single portraits of her in the finished gown. I needed a Fairy Queen for a private ongoing storyline (not posted), and was hoping to get to it this summer, which is the main reason I decided to make her this new gown.

This gown is a magnificent costume for a Fairy Queen! I'm thinking Miho's beautiful face would suit a pair of very regal, beautiful fairy wings.

I'm waiting to see the costume done before deciding on wings. There will just be pockets on the back of her bodice for one set of wings, and I'm leaning towards fancy 'dragon' wings, in semi sheer. Not solid opaque, or 'butterfly' shaped ones. I'm also considering a sheer black cloak. It all depends on what the costume suggests, since it seems to have a mind of it's own, and wherever I try force my preconceived ideas on it, I end up redoing or removing it.
