Peacock Princess Gowns

I'm sewing doll clothes for my granddaughters for Christmas. I saw these short tulle 'peacock' capes at Value Village when they had all the Halloween costumes last month, and picked up three of them on clearance afterwards. Thought they'd make some nice doll dresses for the girls.

It's so nice to have my own Our Generation doll to model the clothes I'm making, but it always gets me each time just how unposeable they are. Arms go up and down, and head turns from side to side, and that's about it. But she does look nice just standing there.

After these three identical dresses are finished, then I'm making each of the girls another ballet costume - in pale pinks and purples this time. Then hopefully next week I'll be free to work on my own doll stuff again. Yes Santa, I'm looking at you! Will I be able to dress him after all??

Every time I see you sewing for your granddaughters, it makes me smile. My grandmother sewed me doll clothes and I still have all of them. I love these peacock gowns. It's such a creative use of the patterned fabric.

I love to see what you make for your Granddaughters too!
Getting something that is handmade for our dolls at Christmas is so special. These dresses are perfect!.

I still remember the joy of receiving a bed for my dolls (complete with bed linen) made by my Uncle for me one Christmas. Then he made a wardrobe to match it too *happy memories*

I agree it's so special to make stuff for our grandchildren. Not sure if mine appreciate it or not. Also, every time you post about something you've bought at Value Village, I'm amazed (there are other parts of the country - the US - that also seem to have great stuff at their thrift stores, but gosh, I NEVER seem to find such great stuff) I thought maybe it's that Value Village has better quality stuff, so checked to see if they exist in our area, and sure enough, there ARE two, on the other side of the valley. Some day I'm going to have check them out. In my own area I seem to be limited to Goodwill and Vincent de Paul, most of the stuff in them is junk, and to make matters worse, they're WAY over-priced! Sigh

I'm in Canada, and find that Value Village here is laid out much more like a regular department store than those other secondhand charity stores. Goodwill and Salvation Army are just a huge dump. We never go to any of those. In fact I make it a policy to only visit our local Value Village once a week on Senior's Day.

The peacock fabrics used for the doll dresses was actually new 'capes' available in the new costume section before Halloween.
