Paige in the Blossoms

6/5/2019

I took several dolls along to photograph in the crabapple blossoms last Saturday, and it's a good thing I did, since the weather has not cooperated since, and now the blossoms are mostly gone.
So here's Paige among the blossoms....
Picture
It was a sunny day with lots of clouds, and I took photos in both conditions, so I guess this can be a lesson in outdoor photography. Here's the same shots, first in hazy sun....
Picture
Then in sun with Paige shaded by a hand

..and then with cloud cover...
Picture
Note that the photo on the left is definitely 'warmer', with golden undertones, whereas the photo on the right is 'cooler' with more of a 'blue' cast to everything.

One of the trees had a section with white blossoms, and Paige had to climb up.....
Picture
Again shot in hazy sunshine ....then partly shaded by a hand....

Picture
...and with cloud cover...
Picture
Paige wanted to pick some of the blossoms....
Picture
..and I photographed her in the sun....and again with a box lid shading her....

I like both.  I used to avoid shooting in sunshine whenever possible, but am finding I'm actually growing to like it. It certainly can add more interest, as long as the sunshine isn't too harsh.

Martha, thank you for these photography tips.

I have such a bad eye for photography though because I cannot tell the difference. I can't sing on key either.

It's a good thing I am a writer or I would have nothing for which to recommend myself (laugh).

The comparison photos are very helpful.Thank you!

Your Paige is really pretty. I love her soft colouring. She's a little blossom herself :o). My favourite is the close-up of her perched on the branch with blossoms all around.

You're very welcome!

I really like Paige as well, although I may have to switch her wig and jumper with Peach, since I've designated Paige as a 'trip' doll, and it's going to be very windy, so the Tibetan lambskin may be too wild in all that wind.

I love your inventive ways to create shade to get such fabulous photos.

You have to do what you have to do to get the photos you want. Although just shading the subject only works when it's hazy sunshine. It doesn't work so we'll when it's bright sunshine.
