Nutcracker Sweets

Christmas pictures this year have taken a different turn from previous years, mostly because I don't like to repeat things endlessly, and last year I covered almost everything. This year I have my doll's Christmas tree in the middle of my dining room table, along with some doll furniture, some nutcrackers, and of course my little mice. Each day when I go past I'm inspired to try something different with them.  Yesterday was no exception, so today I have a few more photos to share.

The Nutcracker brings back memories of our very first date many years ago. Jan and I met in November 1975, and the first two attempts at a date were snowed out with major blizzards. So he asked me to the Nutcracker after Christmas. My Mom sewed a beautiful long red velvet dress for me to wear. Jan picked me up and we drove into downtown Toronto and had a lovely dinner at Old Ed's (which was later torn down and replaced by the Princess of Wales Theatre) After dinner we tried to find our way through the dark one-way streets towards O"Keefe Centre (later renamed the Hummingbird Centre, and now the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) Suddenly out of nowhere we were broadsided and the car spun around. Seems we had somehow ended up going the wrong way on a one-way street, and because there were no traffic lights in the direction we were coming from, we had driven right into the path of oncoming traffic on University Avenue. The first thing the police said to Jan when they arrived, was "You are from Hamilton, and you don't know about one way streets?" It was so embarrassing, but thankfully no one was hurt.

It was winter, and freezing cold out, so we were seated in the back of the squad car.  Jan's damaged car was towed away. One of the officers had found my glasses which had flown off during the impact.  Finally all the paperwork was done, and the officers turned to us and said "It's still five minutes to curtain time, so do you still want to go to the Nutcracker?" We looked at each other and both said "Yes!!" So with lights flashing and sirens wailing we sped through downtown Toronto to Front Street, and pulled up into the front entrance of the theatre. Everyone  stared as the doorman stepped forward, opened the back door of the police car, and we stepped out....

Thank you! I'm so extremely tired that having a little Christmas setting on my dining room table and taking a few photos each day is about all I can manage this year. No elaborate stories or lengthy photo shoots this Christmas.
