Nelly in Yellow

1/16/2018

I finished the yellow ball gown for Nelly yesterday. It fought me for much of last week, but I finally got it to look like I envisioned it.  The worst had to be gathering all the tulle for the skirts. I've never tried sewing a skirt with that much fabric before - the seam at the waist ended up being almost a quarter inch thick - and I was surprised I didn't break any needles.

Today I took a few photos....

The winter comment is for your Cassia photos (posted in this thread by mistake) - but that said, the yellow gown is lovely, a real breath of spring during these cold winter days!

Nelly is a doll sculpted by Kaye Wiggs, whose dolls are sold through Jpopdolls. All her dolls are offered just once for a limited time (usually a month) and my Nelly was ordered during her release in July of 2011. The only way to get one now would be on the secondary market, and because of her rarity, you could expect to pay upwards of $900 US. That's just for the naked, bald doll. Then you'd have to buy her shoes, wig and clothes.

If you are interested in one of Kaye Wigg's doll, then I suggest keeping an eye on Jpopdolls, because that's the only place they are ever released. Right now there are two different Kaye Wiggs on pre-order there, but none are the size of my Nelly, who is 53 cm tall. Also, be aware that after the pre-order period, the dolls will take at least 8 months to ship.
