Lunenburg

Next destination was the town of Lunnenburg.
Picture
It's a World Heritage site, and I was hoping there would be a schooner in the harbour. Lunnenburg is the home to the Bluenose II, which is the schooner on our dime, but I knew it was going to be away in Toronto for the upcoming Canada Day celebrations. I was hoping there might be another schooner in the harbour.....
Picture
We explored the town with it's gorgeous old homes, before heading to the harbour...

And there was a schooner in the harbour......and it was perfect for what I had in mind....
Picture
So, out came Rex and Bianca, for some photos....
Picture
There were plenty of people around, but I just ignored them, and made sure none were in the background. The biggest issue to contend with was the wind...
Picture
I had made their cloaks out of very thin fabric so they'd drape well, but they also caught the wind
Picture
...and then there was Bianca's hair....
Picture
Even so, I managed some great shots....

Great photos! I wouldn't worry about the wind. If they were about to board an ocean-bound vessel, I imagine there would be a fair amount of wind no matter how protected the harbor. The wind-blown hair simply adds to the realism.

I didn't mind the wind in her hair so much, but wasn't keen on the way it lifted Rex's upper cape. I should have brought some pins along on the photo shoots. Next time!

You could try sewing some inconspicuous beads (I.e., the same color as the cape) to the underside of the upper cape's hem. That should provide enough weight to keep the shorter cape in place.

That's actually a great idea. Better than taking pins out with me.

But I wonder how weighty they'd have to be in a gale-force wind?

I agree with Lorraine, the wind in her hair adds to the realism and atmosphere. The way you were able to blur the background and position the dolls to obscure any modern features of the schooner is great. They look about to board an old sailing ship.
They make such a beautiful couple, it's impossible to get enough of them!

Thanks! That's the look I was after.

On this trip I was mostly focussed on taking photos of Rex and Bianca. After all, that's what I specially made their outfits for.

I have stopped trying to get the entire scene in focus. Mostly because there's debris (dust) on my camera sensor which doesn't seem to want to be removed, and it shows up as dark spots if I use too great a depth of field. So I stay with shallow.
