Lovely Layla

6/23/2020

I was still trying to find Mini Layla's look.  There was something about her I just couldn't relate to. I don't have many wigs her size, and the one she'd been wearing up until now, although beautiful, was just too long and 'bushy'.  So I tried a different wig for a recent fairy photo shoot....

The wig just wasn't doing it for me, and there seemed to be something lacking with her face too. She was just too monotone, lacking some colour in some way. So back to her original wig I went, and since it was decided it would definitely be hers to keep, I gave it a major haircut. I also changed her eyes to a turquoise blue. I thought she looked much better....

Her eyes still seem rather dark, except in close-ups, so maybe I should see if I have some with a slightly smaller iris, with a bit more white showing.

I know how you feel. I'm just not bonding with my mini Layla elf and may end up putting her up for sale. Doesn't help that I just don't like what I've made for her clothing-wise either.

Some dolls are just hard. And then there's having to buy everything online without knowing how it will actually look on the doll.

I've always loved Layla, and would happily trade all my bigger versions for the Mini size, but it is taking a bit of time to find a final look.

I find a lot of the frustration with these dolls is that the wait period is so long, and then the faceups aren't as advertised, and they are terrible posers.

But I do think they are very cute, so will put up with a lot in order to get nice pictures of them.

I love Layla's new look. With this eye color and hair style, she no longer looks sad. I'd say she looks serious instead. Agree that dark eyes make a doll hard to photograph. She might need some with a bit of sparkle. I've always loved the Layla sculpt. I had her in the original size but didn't keep her because she just didn't fit in with my other dolls. If it's any consolation, I could never find a style I liked for her either.

It's funny how just a change of eye colour and wig style can totally change a doll's look. I found her face just looked too 'bland & brown'. She needed some brighter eyes, in blue or green. I will try some smaller ones tomorrow when it's brighter light.

I have two Layla's in the original msd size. One sun-kissed elf, and a fair human. They wear my daughter's repurposed baby dresses, so are rather sentimental to me. But I like the mini size so much better. They fit better with the KW Tinies, the Iplehouse KIDs and BIDs, and most of my other dolls. The KW MSDs don't fit with anyone.

I think she does look sweeter with the second wig. It is more
"flow-y."

I like her in pink.

I have a difficult time with BJDs eyes also. I want to change my Elin's eyes but I just cannot do it so they will stay the way they are.

Lighter eyes and her new hairstyle really bring her face to life. I agree with Lorraine, she now looks less sad. She is awfully cute.
