Kitties and a Pillow

I love many of the 3-D printed puppies and kittens I'm seeing online, but they are very expensive, so I opted instead for a pair of cat 'marionettes' from Affordable Designs right here in Canada.

After removing the strings and all the tiny screw-eyes, they make nice little cats. They may not be as poseable as the 3-D printed ones, but at just $20 for the two of them together, they work well enough for me - for now.

I also put together a new decorative pillow. I discovered a pin cushion amongst all the stuff in my Mom's old sewing basket. I thought it would make a perfect little decorative pillow for my doll furniture. I thought all I'd need to do was just pull out the pins, and it would be good to go. Wrong! After pulling out all the pins stuck in the outside, it became clear that there were pins deep inside as well. The only way to remove them was to open up the little cushion. So I removed the closing stitches, and out spilled the crushed cork, and one needle after another. Dozens and dozens of needles - I counted more than eighty - including several tapestry needles!

Well, I ended up totally picking the pin cushion apart, washing it, and sewing it back together with a strip of reasonably matching print on two of the edges, and then softly stuffed it. I think all the rust spots from the pins just add to the 'country' feel of the cow print.

So now I have a nice 'sentimental'  little pillow for my colonial bench....

So cute. I notice I can actually order them for $30.00 USD, which is still not bad. Of course, I have some ornament cats from Hobby Lobby that I found recently that are perfect for YoSD and MSD sized dolls. One cat is sitting up, one is lying down, and one is sort of half way. I kinda wish they had one that was standing, but they are still cute for photos and posing with dolls.

The cats are actually $20 US when you order them off the Beju website, but his two websites don't coordinate with each other, so I just sent him an email.

I have several resin animals - like bunnies, ducks, and puppies - that I use in doll photos. They aren't posable, but they still work.

Here is Eirien (one of my newest dolls, so I have not done much with her) and the lying down kitty.

The kitty works just fine. I use static figures like that all the time with my dolls too.

Awwwwww.....what sweet little kitties! The girls love them already.

And I love the story of the little cushion.
But how 'scary' about all those needles lost inside it *yikes*
And I never noticed that it was new fabric on the sides until you mention it too!
It is just perfect.

I have that problem with pin cushions. The needles always manage to find their way inside, and on occasion, I get stuck when ones decides to work through the bottom. Moral...I make myself leave thread attached to needles. At least then you see the thread sticking out and pull out the needle.

So cute, always a pleasure to read how gifted you are. You have patience I discipline myself to have.

Your new dress tutorial inspired me to attempt my first Iplehouse BID outfit.

My Bono looks happy to have the new outfit: https://www.flickr.com/photos/137865876@N05/23129594296/in/datetaken/

I always look forward to your wonderful photos. Your creative scenes are so realistic and uplifting. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us.

I'm glad you found the pattern and tutorial helpful! Unfortunately I couldn't get into Flickr to see what you'd made.
