Oh, and I changed my mind about the main sleeves yet again. I made a test sleeve to see how far up there would need to be lacing, and decided that with her arms being so slender, the eyelets and lacing would take up too much space, so decided to do away with the lacing idea, and make a slender sleeve sewn down to the wrist, and I'd just have to remove her hands to get them on. So now Bianca has paper clips instead of hands.
Today I'm working on beading the small puffy sleeves which will be at the top of Monica's sleeves. I bought some red rhinestones and glued them all into place last night, so they'd be ready today. Now I have to bead around them to simulate a gold jewellery setting.... Taking a closer look.... The beads are very small, and are hard on the eyes, but I'm almost done the first sleeve.

The beading looks beautiful. The groupings look like little jewels.

I don't have your patience so I would probably glue sequins under some of the rhinestones instead of beading all around them. The finished sleeves are going to be gorgeous.

I don't like using glue when making doll costumes. Unfortunately I had no choice with the rhinestones.

Oh my goodness that beading is amazing! Talk about labor intensive! The beading adds such a sumptuous look. I'm with you about not liking to use glue on doll clothes. But I have a question: how do you glue on tiny rhinestones? I've done it but so hard! Hoping you might have a good method. TIA Martha!

I used GemTack glue, squirted some on a piece of scrap paper, and used a toothpick to put a spot on the fabric. Getting the rhinestone onto it is the hardest part because I didn't want to get any glue onto the top surface. I dampened my finger (licked it) to press down onto a rhinestone to pick it up and positioned it onto the glue, and pressed it down.

Thank you. Very helpful. Here's something I tried once that actually worked fairly well. I rolled some Mac's Ear Putty (that I used to set eyes), in a tiny worm like shape. I used the tip of it to pick up a rhinestone. My friend Allison Wonder gave me the idea. I like your idea about the GemTack on a bit of scrap paper and using the toothpick to place the glue on the fabric. Thank you again! Leave a Reply. |
