Introducing Saphira

My new dragon is finally finished!  That just took five whole weeks, but the way time is flying these days it somehow didn't feel that long.

We went to the woods on the town-line yesterday and I took Saphira and Phairby along just in case the scillas were still half-decent. They were still pretty nice under the trees, so I took some photos, even though they were back-lit in the midday sun....

Then back at home in the studio. I have Saphira posed with Phairby, since she's going to get a saddle with a little Elf Warrior rider Phairby's size...

Then a comparison photo with Winston. It's not meant to be their first meeting, but strictly a comparison photo. Saphira is a little bigger, but then female dragons are. I added 1/4" in her upper torso to help accommodate a saddle and rider. I also straightened the curves in the neck so that I can bend it to whatever curves I want without popping the seams. And I also added 1/2" to the length of her lower legs and a bit of width to her thighs. Everything else is from the same patterns.

Then to celebrate a friend's birthday, I had her pose with a cake, balloons, and gifts....

Saphira is beautiful. I understand that the females are always bigger than the males. They make a beautiful pair. I’m glad Phairby could introduce them.

Thanks. Actually she hasn't introduced them. I just took the photo for comparison sake. I still need to come up with a scenario where they actually meet for real.

Saphira is beautiful. I love her colors.
Winston seems to be a little bit shy.

Thanks. I'm sure he'll get over it when he actually meets her for real.

Saphira is a great name for an elegant lady dragon!

Since I don't know many dragons, I have to admit not knowing that female dragons are always bigger than male dragons. :o) Winston is a lucky guy to be getting such an impressive lady friend!

Thanks. I figured since she was going to go into battle as a steed for a warrior elf, she needed a strong name.

The changes I made to my pattern made her a little taller than Winston. I didn't know females were bigger either. Our DIL's father said they were. So that's perfect.

I am so happy that she is finished and the stories of her adventures will begin. She is definitely formidable. I am sure will be a great match for Winston.

Thanks. I'll need to come up with a storyline - once I have more time.

Saphira is the perfect name since she is going to be a warrior. Love how she turned out, she is perfect.

Thanks. It will still be a while before her companion is ready, so until then she'll just be a dragon on her own.

Love the name Saphira - Perfect for this lovely lady dragon. To paraphrase Rick in Casablanca - this is the start of a beautiful relationship between her and Winston.

Thanks. I looked up female dragon names, and liked Saphira, which was the dragon's name in Eragon, with Jeremy Irons.
