Introducing Edan

10/30/2020

Yvette's boyfriend arrived today.  He's an Iplehouse FID Edan, in Special Real skin, with Makeup B.  I was a bit surprised, since I had asked them not to add the four big dark moles, which they agreed to, but they left off all his lighter freckles as well.

His face has an unusual shine to it, that none of my other dolls have. At first I hoped was from the cold, but it hasn't faded. It makes him look hot and sweaty.  I'm told a new coat of matte sealer should fix it, but I have no idea if the spray available here is even compatible with whatever IH uses.

I'll need to make him a wig, but for now I just gave him Lawrence's contemporary wig. It's the only guy's wig I have his size, so there was no choice.

Anyways, He needed something to wear, and I don't have a lot of selection.  Just a tuxedo, and Rex's Outlander outfit. So it would depend on what outfit Yvette looked nicest in, since I had something that would go with either option. She looked best in the gown originally made for Rosie. Which meant 'formal' wear for Edan as well.  But he looked wrong in the tux, so went with something a little more casual.

And since he arrived today, the day before Halloween, and I had tiny carved pumpkins sitting around from an earlier photo shoot, I thought I'd take some photos of him with Yvette....

She's obviously already cast her spell on him....

They could both use some blushing and manicures (everyone who arrived this year could) but it's not been possible to get any of my dolls worked on yet this year...

I think they work very nicely together.  now I just need to make him his own wig, and an outfit, so she can go back into her blue Medieval fantasy gown...

They do look well together. I am looking forward to reading about their adventures when you have his clothing and wig completed.

His wig is top of my 'To-Do' list (hopefully for this weekend) and his outfit is near the top too. I had wanted it done before he arrived, but too many other things got in the way.

He’s my absolute favorite Iplehouse boy sculpt and he looks great with Yvette! However, you’ve got a good point about how shiny he is. I can’t say for certain, but I believe a lot of BJD companies default to Mr. Super Clear for sealant, so that might be what Iplehouse used. If that’s the case, another sealant over it shouldn’t be a big deal. I painted one of my boys once with MSC and since he was one of the first I ever did, his sealant ended up lifting off and cracking, but I liked his face so I just re-sealed over it with another spray called Citadel Munitorium Varnish. It worked just fine and didn’t react with the MSC at all. Of course, I can’t say for certain, but I just wanted to give you some hope that the issue might be easily fixed with another coat of spray. Dry sealant shouldn’t be super reactive.

I've had too many dolls arrive, that a little issue isn't too disturbing any more. He will need a body blush and manicure, so can get re-sprayed then.

Very handsome! I like this sculpt too! Sometimes the company doesn't do quite a good enough job of cleaning off all the "release" agent hence the shine. A light coating of Mr. Super Clear matte absolutely will get rid of it. I've found that Testor's Dullcoat (available in most art supply stores) works well too. I always try for just the very lightest of coatings so it doesn't "chip" off. Anyway, can't wait to see what you come up with for him. I'd say he and Yvette look quite stunning just as they are!

I hope it's not from not cleaning off the release agent, because that means his faceup can chip off more easily.

We only have easy access to Testors here, but I'm way too heavy handed with a spray can, so am hoping he can get his face sprayed if he goes for blushing and a manicure.

I already tried Rex's wig on him, and that one looks way better. So I hope to make his wig tomorrow.

The plan is to make him an outfit like Kevin Costner's in Prince of Thieves., so he's Fantasy/Medieval but not a knight. My Prince Adrian has a hooded collar based on Robin's costume, and I tried it on Eden to see how it looks, and it looks great on him as well.

Edan is next on my wish list! He looks great here, and I can't wait to see his new outfit. We seem to like the same sculpts...I have Baron and Rex, too. I want to try to make a wig per your tutorial...just need to find the right fur.

Their wigs have a hard cap, and then I make wefts of Angora goat mohair locks - not fur - which gets glued on, then styled.
