Meanwhile Rex and Baron were approaching the farthest reaches of the Kingdom, in the mountains north of Gravenhurst....where they were making their way through a treacherous icy pass.....

Wow, amazing pictures. I hope they arrive home safely, this landscape looks beautiful but dangerous.

Thank you.

I had wanted to go up north for photos like this for a while, thinking it would be something different in a totally different setting, and we finally went this past week. It was -12C but not too bad in the sun. However Rex's cloak froze solid after it got wet from the dripping icicles high overhead. There were also water droplets on the sides of the horses, but when I tried to dry them off they were also frozen solid.

The ice is reasonably safe when it's still very cold - as long as we don't get too close or underneath. Not so much when the temperatures go up. Then pieces can fall off at any time.

Wonderful photos - that icy background is amazingly beautiful. Especially that ethereal pale green color shining through the ice.

Thank you.

I'm so glad we went up there. It's the perfect spot for taking doll photos. Most of these ice falls are on the rock cuts along busy highways where you can't stop, but this one is on a long driveway to a boat launch (to a frozen lake) so there's no traffic at all.

The ice formations can have a touch of blue or green, but when the ground water has iron in it then they can also be yellow or deep gold - which looks totally bizarre. However those seem to always be in places where one can't stop to take photos. Especially not doll photos.

One word: spectacular!

You are always topping yourself with your photos.

I can't wait to see the behind the scenes photos. I cannot imagine how you set up these amazing shots.

Thank you.

Fortunately I did remember to take a few Behind the Scene photos, which I'll post once I get to the end of this story in a few more days.

Spectacular photos! Those ice falls are always so impressive and even more so as the backdrop for a couple handsome knights on horseback.

The first of your photos I ever saw were those of the 'Ice Caves' back in 2013. I'd spotted one of the photos on Pinterest, followed the link and discovered your wonderful world of BJDs.

Thank you.

I had been trying to find different interesting places to photograph my two knights, and thought going up north to the ice falls could be fantastic.....and it was.

Yes, the first time I took dolls up north was in 2013. The photos were of Kyle and Aeran in their Fantasy outfits. Every year the ice forms differently, and the snowbanks on the side of the road are different heights and widths, so that year I was able to actually place the dolls inside the ice formation.

In 2016 I took Winston and three Fantasy children, as well as four contemporary BIDs who went sledding on the ice hills.

In 2018 I took Iris and Steve there, and we haven't been back since.
