After considerable hammering, drilling, and gluing, Holly's Yule Log was finished...

So she took it to her Mom...

Leona lit the candles, and they sat and reminisced as the Christmas season finally came to an end

Oh bless! What a beautiful Yule log.......I must remember to let my girls make one next Christmas.
And what wonderful photos of everyone looking at the lit candles.
I know I am going to keep coming back to look at these photos again and again!

We had a Yule log like this when we were kids, only it was a birch log, and every year something would need to be replaced on top.

Candle flames are a bit of a challenge in order to make them look in scale. I always shoot with a timer, and keep a lit candle off to one side. Then once I press the button for the camera to start ticking down to take the picture, I take the lit candle and light the ones in the scene. It's the only way I can get small flames, because if I light the candles beforehand, then the flames end up HUGE. Of course sometimes I'm not fast enough to beat the timer, and my hand ends up blurred in the picture. But that's the nice thing about digital, I can shoot as many photos as I want until one turns out right.
