"The iceberg moved in the night! Let's go look!"
Next morning, the kids took a look out the window. "The iceberg moved in the night! Let's go look!" So they put on their sweaters and headed off on the trail for a closer look... "Look at all the bergie bits!" The tide was out.... So Jan was able to cross to the island... ...and pick up a small chunk of ice.... ..before sneaking a photo of me and the dolls.....

Back when I first got to Alaska and the Portage Glacier was much, much closer, we would go and get some of the ice out of the water for our cooler when we camped out. It was so dense, it melted much slower than purchased ice cubes. Of course, now, it's retreated so far you have to take a boat ride to see it and there are few bergs in the lake.

Locals were gathering some of the ice into coolers at another spot. We've had some in our freezer before too. The iceberg ice releases lots of air bubbles as it melts in a drink.

I love icebergs, and it's nice when they are so close to shore. Little white blobs on the horizon just aren't that exciting.

Thanks! I always worry maybe I'm including too many of the non-doll scenic shots, but I think it gives a bit more of an overview of where the dolls actually are. Comments are closed.
