I had a good look at the costumes on Prince Adrian and Princess Blanchette last night, and I've decided to repurpose them as costumes for my BJDs instead. My sister and I made this royal couple over 25 years ago for a doll photo story. They were among the first dolls Marianne ever sculpted, and at the time we thought they were really great. But a lot of experience and years have gone under the bridge since then, and the dolls seem very unattractive now. But the costumes I made still hold up. I had a really close look at the clothes and everything is sewn - not glued - so taking them apart should not be too difficult. Making them into removable costumes is another matter however - but I like a challenge. I'm thinking my new Limhwa boy can inherit the Prince's outfit - and his name. The dress has a substantial bust, and the only MSD doll I own with any kind of bust would be Isar, so I'll remake it for her. I think she'll look lovely in it, but she may need her heeled feet if the skirt proves too long, but we'll see about that when we get that far.

Gorgeous costumes! If anyone can remake them without losing the essence of the garments, it's you. I look forward to seeing the finished products. (Love the cascading flowers on the dress!)

Thanks! I'm thinking it shouldn't be that difficult. I sewed the costumes very well, and fully lined. The Prince's outfit is no challenge at all since most of his outfit is in fact loose and just held in place with a belt. The Princess' gown is another matter as I used to sew the bodices in one piece with a neck opening and sleeves attached without side-seams sewn, and then put it on over the doll's head and sew the side seams closed by hand. For a BJD the dress will need to open in the back.

boy, Adrian looks really bad. And to think we once thought he was good looking. Ugh! I think Blanchettles dress will look amazing on a new doll.

Isn't that the truth! He's sort of an unattractive mix of that guy on Battlestar Galactica, and Harrison Ford - at least that's what I see when I look at him now. The girl isn't much better. Just goes to show how impressions and attitudes change - not to mention how much sculpting skills improved since then. I thought they both deserved a final decent portrait before they faded into oblivion.

if you haven't trashed the heads yet, I'd like to have them for my collection.

Sure, you can have them. The dolls are still perfectly in one piece in my case. I don't have time right now to remake the costumes, so there's no point taking them apart yet. Although, I'm very tempted. Comments are closed.
