For years I've been avoiding taking doll photos in the sun, thinking the contrast would be too great. But I really liked the last few Curiosity Shoppe photos with the sun shining in through the window, so I thought I'd try it again with another doll, and liked the results so much, that I thought I'd try it with Bianca in her gold Medieval gown, now that she has the veil attached.... I didn't bother putting her own castle interior back up, and just shot in Kassia's castle, so her gown isn't exactly period appropriate, but I didn't care. It was just an exercise in taking more photos in the sun, and I love the results. They remind me of Waterhouse paintings....

They are all beautiful, Martha! I especially like the ones where Bianca's veil is illuminated behind her. It glows like a halo around her.

Thanks. The veil does look very nice. I didn't want it to be permanently attached to the cap, so it attaches with three hooks onto eyes sewn inside the cap.

I love these - the lighting effect is exquisite (as is Bianca and the golden gown).

Thank you. It's definitely very interesting lighting. I can't get over how well it worked. I expected all the light areas to be totally blown out, but I guess I'm getting better with Photoshop.

She is just stunning. I think the last photo is my favorite.

My favourites are the ones where she's sitting in the window as well.

Gorgeous! She looks like she is sitting for a royal portrait. I love the effect of the light shining through her veil.

Thanks. I used to avoid back lighting like the plague - especially from the sun - but I'm finding it can really add something special.

Thank you. Even when I've been taking doll photos for years, it's so nice to discover ways to take even better ones.

This golden gown in the sun reminds me of myself in 2005 on 23 July at our Renaissance Faire in Larkspur, Colorado. I got married to my sweetheart in a 16th Century English Tudor Ceremony outside. I had a gown similar to this in an Elizabethan style and my husband was in a ornate black and brown doublet and hat with a plume and black pants and boots. He looked very handsome. I was dressed in gold and ivory and I had a Juliet cap with a ivory chiffon veil in the back. I sewed ivory pearls onto my cap and the bodice and I also had capped slip sleeves and golden clasps to gather my ivory satin chemise blouse underneath. I was a glorious day for both of us. We will be celebrating our 15th Anniversary this year.
