Girls in the Ice

Jan and I ventured out into the backyard to take some photos of my girls with the ice-covered branches.  Normally the trees and bushes are way over my head, but now they are all hanging down at photo level.  It wasn't too bad walking on the ice-covered snow, but the sidewalks were another matter, even with the salt.  Here's a few of my favourite photos....

Note the bent icicles in many of the photos. After a few hours of freezing rain, the branches got so heavy, that they bent down, and any icicles that were first hanging downward, are now on an angle, and they just continue to grow downwards.

The photos are beautiful Martha! Your girls look like they're having fun out there, lucky they're all rugged up :)
It's hard to believe such natural beauty has created so much havoc and damage. We don't get ice or snow here, so I can only imagine what it's like! Glad to hear you are safe and still have power after the storm.

Your photos have a surreal quality. The images are all too real, I know, because my front and back yards look the same. I wasn't brave enough to take any dolls outside, however, as they don't have sweaters, hats or gloves.

These pictures -just like illustrations to Russian fairy-tale The Twelve Months. When I look at them, I remember how it felt like in my childhood-the magic is real...

The girls look so natural around the frozen ice as the sunlight dances around tree branches. Thanks for sharing your art!
