Fun with Cats

I've been working on shooting scenes for my upcoming 'White Cat Sequel', and had a Tavern set up on my dining room table the past few days. I find it really interesting how combining all kinds of different pieces of furniture and props can create such a different setting.....

I've not started posting the story yet, even though the first few scenes have been shot. It's just that I need to take some outside, and the weather has not been conducive. Plus Jan came down with a bug (not the currently dreaded one) and the doctor said he needs to self-isolate for a week. Plus all the worldwide craziness over the coronavirus with all the escalating closures, has me rather stressed, so it's a bit of a challenge being creative right now.

I did finish making Prince Adrian's feline alter ego earlier this week though.  I still had most of the fabrics I used 25 years ago, except for the blue brocade the original tunic was made from, so had to substitute something else.  And I only had an extra pair of brown boots - as opposed to black - but I think I prefer the brown.  But otherwise their outfits are quite similar....

So yesterday, after having finished the story photos, and having removed the Tavern owners and all their patrons, I just had some fun with my cat characters.

I've removed them all off their bases. Thankfully I didn't use glue much 25 years ago, so it was easy to remove them all.  The cats have cloth bodies over wire armatures, so are quite posable.

Today the Tavern is gone and it's back to setting up a castle interior, but I always take photos of the setting first, just in case I have to recreate it at a later date.

Thank you, you‘ve got me to smile with this quite funny and cute scene and that smile was sorely needed in this stressful time when everyone is talking about only one thing. It makes me feel good to see your creative working and I love cats. Your cats are looking very proud and impressive, just like the real thing🥰.

I'm glad it made you smile. I'm trying my best to keep being creative during all the craziness going on right now. I think I may just have to turn off the radio, stop reading the paper, and definitely avoid facebook.

I don't know what made me think of doing a story with my cats. They've been standing in my display case for 25 years, and it's surprising how well they work in photos.

It's always so fascinating to see those behind the scenes photos, since the photos always look so convincing it's almost surreal to remember that they're really small!

I try remember to shoot the behind the scene photos.

You're right, the scenes aren't all that big. Well, they are 'big' in the sense that they are full size rooms for medium and small sized dolls, and take up most of my dining room table. If the dolls were any bigger I wouldn't be able to do it.

Thank you for being a day brightener! I am always amazed at your attention to detail, incredibly fine hand work and beauty of your creations. Definitely eye-candy! It is fun to see the whole behind the scene settings. I appreciate that you take the time to "tell a story."

You're very welcome! I am working on a long story, but haven't started posting the beginning yet because I still have to fill in some of the blanks for the first part, and neither of us feels like going out to do it.

These cats are so much fun. It's great you are able to use them for stories with your dolls. No one would ever know the tunic for Prince Adrian's alter ego was any different if they weren't told. Your costumes are amazing, they really are!

I'm always fascinated with your behind the scenes shots, partly because there are so many interesting things in your dining room hutch :o)

Thanks again for brightening each day with a beautiful escape into fantasy.

Thanks! My costume skills were pretty good even way back then. Sculpting was another story. Our human dolls were still very hit and miss, but these cats were great, and still hold up today.

My sister just gave me her guard, and I have one other I've not shown yet. And I may be getting one of my sister's blank cats soon from someone else. So then there will be eight cats in all. Definitely worth featuring in a story with my BJDs.

LOL I may just have to shoot my dining room china cabinet (that hasn't had china up above for years) just for you curious types.
