Now to make another just like it. . . then three more sets.
Well, I decided to try making angel wings from white craft foam. I thought quilted fabric wings would look too "cloth-dollish", and not enough like real feather wings, so decided to give the craft foam a try. I drew a bird's wing, broke it down into four levels of feathers, and made cardboard templates for tracing onto the foam. The craft foam was very easy to work with, and took colour from pencil crayons and paint beautifully. I cut a strip of felt with my scalloping shears to cover the top edges of the foam, then totally smeared the felt with sparkle paint so it wouldn't get fuzzy or fray. I thought the wing turned out very well.
Now to make another just like it. . . then three more sets.

These are lovely! Thanks for sharing your process! I would like to try and make some really huge ones for wall hangings. 5/6/2014 02:35:59 am
These are fantastic! You did a great job. Now, I have a question. How do you attach them? I see the wire but what sort of "carrier" does it go into so the wings are supported? Do they flap about a bit or are they stationary?

The wires get inserted into narrow pockets sewn onto the back of the doll's dress. They are not stationary, but can be moved from side to side.

This is NOT a tutorial on how to make these. It's just an under-construction photo during my process of trying to figure out how to do it.

Per your other vulgar comment (which I deleted) I am under no obligation to provide free patterns and templates of everything I make.

Lovely work. Do you have pics posted of your girl wearing them? I imagine she's beautiful.

You can find pictures in Gallery 2012 and in Favourite Photos 2012. Here's one of them - http://www.antiquelilac.com/angel---kw-msd---gallery-2012.html Unfortunately links don't work in comments here.

The layering is such a good idea! I kept trying to do this with individual feather-shaped pieces and it was too separate and too bulky; I'm giving this a go tonight for sure. Thanks for the pics!!

I am looking for a pattern/picture of wings for an eagle. I am a special education teacher and I do the costumes for our school play each year. We are doing Seussical the Musical this year. I need wings for the eagle. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks! Comments are closed.
