First Fairies

It's way too hot out, and I'm way too busy working on fairy costumes to take doll photos today, so I thought I'd share some of the very first pictures of my very first BJD.....Ryung by Elfdoll, in some of the very first fairy costumes I ever made......
Picture
The very first one was inspired by a painting by Linda Ravenscroft,
and the next ones were variations on it.

The new fairies I'm working on are this same style, but with more varied fabrics, and they will have dragon wings.  I'm making three different colour combos, and two of each.

I'm still trying to figure out for exactly which doll. The patterns I'm using were designed for an Iplehouse JID, but will also fit a Kaye Wiggs MSD. Problem is their sleeve. JIDs have much slimmer arms, so if they are made to fit a JID, they won't fit a KW's arms.  And if they are made to fit a KW girl, they'll be way too wide for an IH JID. I've thought of using stretchy fabric, like most other people, but feel I can't get the detail or nice fit I want with that, so I'm going to use regular fabric.

So the dilemma is, which girl do I make the sleeves fit?  Kaye Wiggs MSD or Iplehouse JID? Or maybe one of each colour combo for each one? I think that may be the best.

these were the costumes that caught my interest that led me to your site. so pretty.

on the sleeve issue: how about a "vest" or bodice with laced sleeves (how they attach)? that way you can leave making them till the end.

The 'sleeves' are already totally separate. I'm just torn about the width to make them, since I like my doll clothes to fit nice and snug.

But maybe lacing up the length of the sleeves might solve the multiple size problem.

I have loved your fairy costumes from the first time I saw them......well I was in *awe* I will admit. And I still am to be honest.
I am so excited to see new fairy costumes from you.

And about the sleeves.
Mercenary as this will seem I suggest you make the sleeves to fit the doll size that sells the fastest. So that will depend on your client market. I am trying to figure out if more people with KW dolls would prefer a fairy costume for their doll than an Iplehouse collector.
Though I will admit that the idea of lacing the full length might work really well for both sizes.

Good luck deciding.

There is that point of view, and then there's the other one - to make the costumes to fit the dolls I prefer to photograph. Decisions, decisions.

I almost said that but decided I had already written enough! LOL!
If it was me, I would always go for that last option, as it is photographing the dolls that I love the most.
