Doing a Bit of Knitting

2/23/2016

I've wanted to have another Fair Isle sweater for one of the new small dolls for some time, and have finally started one.  This one is red, with gray, white and navy patterns. I'm using very fine needle-punch yarn, and can only knit a few rows per day, so it goes a bit slow.

The pattern is pretty much the same as the one I used for the purple sweater.  It's really interesting seeing just how different the pattern looks when it's knit in totally different colours.  I messed up the top of the pattern, but because I didn't want to start all over, I just left it as is.  But now I still have to design the pattern for the yoke, but I still have plenty of time for that, since I first need to knit the second sleeve and the entire body of the sweater, before I need the pattern for the yoke.

It's going to be beautiful. The red, grey, black and white colour combination is really nice!

Which one of your little ones will be the lucky recipient?

I should have said red, grey, navy and white. On my screen the navy looks black, and I missed the 'navy' part when I read your description :o( It really is interesting how the pattern done in other colours looks so different. Completely different elements of the design seem to stand out. It's going to be really pretty!

I wanted to use black, but I didn't have any, so went with navy blue - which looks much like black.

What gorgeous fine work and it is lovely to see just how much planning goes into these little cardigan's too.
Do you colour chart the whole of the yoke pattern too?

With the purple sweater the pattern went higher than I needed it, and I just knit it as far up as it would work. But when I tried colouring the pattern in the new colour scheme, I messed up and coloured wrong, then 'ended' the pattern at the top of the sleeves. So now I have to go back and colour some more pattern.

Beautiful work Martha! Love the pattern. It looks so different knit in another colour. What wool and needle size are you using? It looks like thread in the pictures. Just love your work!!!

The yarn is needle-punch yarn, and I'm knitting with the smallest size needles that came in a package with five short needles of four different sizes for knitting socks - from Michael's. I don't know the actual size.

Thanks Martha! I have a little Ten Ping doll and I have been thinking about making her a sweater. I think that I will look at the needle-punch yarn. Didn't think of using that. Thanks again...Carol
