I hope I can be half the King you were.....'
Long live the King!!"
"That is so sad. It's so hard to lose a parent, and having to say good-bye...forever..." 'Yes it is...and Grace couldn't take it any more, so left the room..." "Lawrence stayed with his Father all night. Baron stayed as well, to support him...." 'You have been such a wonderful Father, and I was proud to be your son. I love you Father. I hope I can be half the King you were.....' 'I'm so proud of you, son.' "I know you will be a great, wise, and kind King..." "Then, with the first light of dawn, the old King quietly passed away...." "Lawrence felt overwhelmed, with both the grief of loosing his beloved Father, and the weight of all the new responsibilities awaiting him....." "The King was dead......
Long live the King!!"

Oh, that moment--when your heart is so filled with grief, gratitude, and love and the weight of duty settles upon you as a stone. Grief for the king and father you have lost. Gratitude that he prepared you well for this day and all those ahead. And love--both for your precious family and all the people of your dominion who are counting on you. Those three things combine to make that solemn weight bearable for a good and decent man.

A last gentle moment between a loving father and son. The sad but inevitable cycle of life. The last photo is a fitting end for this scene - Lawrence seated on the throne, alone and solemn as he faces the future as king. Comments are closed.
