Clothes for Bono and Coco

Through much of the holidays, whenever there was a bit of time, I was working on knitting a sweater for Coco. The main colour is a new yarn, and new gauge, so I had some trouble trying to make everything the right size. The first sleeve was discarded as being too narrow at the top where the fancy stitches were. I was knitting too tightly. So I started knitting more loosely, and the main sweater body ended up way too wide, so I unravelled everything and started all over. The main body is rather long, but I'm not redoing it a fourth time. I just haven't finished the sweater yet since I can't decide if I want it to be a button-front sweater or a pullover....

I'm leaning towards a pullover, since I made a white shirt to go under it. That shirt was some chore - I've never made a collar with collar band quite so small. What a fiddly job!

I brought away Bono and Coco Friday evening, so they can get painted. Charie showed me some beautiful laces she'd recently purchased, and gave me a length of a gorgeous embroidered mint green lace. My first thought was to make a dress with a purple or green velvet bodice, but in the end I went for delicate spring party dress, with pale purple accents. I love using real silk, but have very little in the way of pale purple silk or ribbon, so will have to see what else I have in stock.

Thanks! That green lace is so beautiful! and delicate. I wanted some interest at the neckline, but thought the standard seed beads might be too big, so am using super tiny beads, I've never used before, and they are not much bigger than a large grain of sand. I'm surprised a beading needle even goes through the holes, or that I can see well enough to work with them! My plan is to have both outfits done before the dolls are ready to pick up.

I love the knitting but I winced each time you said you had ripped it off the needles and started again! That Fair Isle work is delightful.
Do you sew the bands on, rather than picking up from the work?

I am really impressed with that shirt too.
And the spring party dress is just so pretty!

I hate unravelling and redoing stuff, but I'm also a perfectionist, and I wanted a nice sweater, so.....

Anyway, I always make notes, so if I ever use the same brand of yarn again, I won't have the same problems.

I usually just crochet the bands onto the sweater. I find it way too difficult to know beforehand where buttonholes should go, so couldn't possibly knit the bands with buttonholes as I'm going. And at this small scale, sewing bands on would look too bulky as well. So I resort to crochet after the fact.

I'm making the green lace dress a bit long, so it can work as a Victorian child's dress, or a bridesmaid as well.

Coco and Bono will be as well dressed as all your other little ones! The mint green lace dress will be beautiful. Have you decided on a wig for Bono... and a name? Love the spiffy little shirt and sweater for Coco. Will you be calling him Coco?

I'm just going to see which of my wigs looks best on Bono, and then maybe order something specific for her afterwards. And she definitely needs a new name. I usually don't rename my dolls because first of all, I'm terrible at naming anything, and secondly I'm not a fan of how everyone posts pictures calling their doll by it's given name and then always has to put the real sculpt name in brackets behind it. So for both those reasons I've always just kept the sculpt names. Coco can keep his name. But "Bono"? When she's dressed and wigged, I'll see what suits her, and add 'Bono' as her last name.
